INTRODUCTION 
RAJDHANI EXPRESS 
 Rajdhani express is a special type of train.Guard 
is the controller of the running train.Train is 
controlled by the help of whistle or flag (red as 
well as green). 
 There are two set systems for communication 
between guard and driver:---- 
(A) VHF- it tends to very high frequency.it’s 
range 
is 30-300MHZ. Example:-walkie-talkie set 5 
hrs 5 watts(the range of walkie-talkie is upto 
2km). It is also called line of sight 
communication.it means that if driver and guard 
are not in same line then communication is not 
possible. 
(B) POINT-TO-POINT COMMUNICATION-A

A pair of wire between guard and 
driver, both have telephone. This 
telephone is called magneto 
telephone which is very authentic. 
MAGNETO TELEPHONE—it has 
a handle when handle is rotated 
then mechanical energy is 
converted into electrical energy by 
the help of generator which is 
available in this telephone..Ringing 
voltage range is—60-70 volts
IPDSLAM 
 It connects multiple customer digital subscriber line (DSL) 
interfaces to a high-speed digital communications channel 
using multiplexing techniques. 
 Customers connect to the DSLAM through ADSL modems or 
DSL routers, which are connected to the PSTN network via 
typical unshielded twisted pair telephone lines. Each DSLAM 
has multiple aggregation cards, and each such card can 
have multiple ports to which the customers lines are 
connected.
EXCHANGE 
 It is an Israel system. It is a 
1200 line exchange which is 
called SPC or Stored 
Program Control. It is also 
called ISDN type exchange.

OPTICAL FIBER CABLE 
 An optical fiber cable is a cable containing 
one or more optical fiber. The optical fiber 
elements are typically individually coated with 
plastic layers and contained in a protective 
tube suitable for the environment where the 
cable will be deployed. 
 Optical Fiber communication:-Glass fibers 
carrying information at frequencies of visible 
light spectrum. 
Advantage:- 1. No induction effect. 
2. Low transmission loss. 
3. High bandwidth. 
4. Speed of communication 
is more. 
5. Less weather effect. 
6. Safety and security is 
more. 
Disadvantage:- 1. Requirement of high 
skilled staff.
PUBLIC ADDRESS(PA) AND TRAIN INDICATION BOARD(TIB) 
ANNOUNCEMENT SYSTEM:- 
The PA closely integrates the audio and 
visual functions for conveying the desired 
information to passengers. The system 
generally consists of:- 
A. Visual Equipment:-Visual equipment, 
consisting of saloon displays and head 
code displays, conveys journey-related 
information for the convenience of 
passengers. 
B. Audio equipment: Audio equipment are 
used for automatic and manual 
announcements to passengers travelling in 
the train. 
TIB: -(TRAIN INDICATION BOARD) 
Train Indication Boards are provided at 
entrance / exit and other public utility 
places of railway station premises. These 
are the display devices which gives the 
information regarding Train name and no.
DATA LOGGER 
 A data logger (also datalogger or data 
recorder) is an electronic device that records 
data over time or in relation to location either 
with a built in instrument or sensor or via 
external instruments and sensors. 
 Data loggers vary between general purpose 
types for a range of measurement applications 
to very specific devices for measuring in one 
environment or application type only.

IP EXCHANGE 
 It tends to internetwork packet exchange. 
 Packet based communication, enabling use 
of common infrastructure for data, voice 
and video communication. 
It has two types of switches:-- (a) 
Ethernet port 
(b) optical 
port 
 Upto 100 meters Ethernet port is used and 
more than 100 meters transmission is 
lossed so optical port is used. 
 Power over Ethernet is used for giving 
power to the IP devices.
