Remote location and difficult terrain results in lack of access to proper healthcare facilities for the poor and the old. Most ailing old people give up hope of
timely treatment.

Health
Barmer is one of the most remote districts in the country and its difficult terrain has posed many challenges in providing access to
healthcare services. The established primary healthcare centres are plagued by under-staffing, amongst other issues, affecting their
delivery of services. Lack of health facilities in the vicinity and non-
availability of female doctors result in absence of proper maternal
healthcare. Lack of awareness on health issues pertaining
especially to women and children is widespread in the region,
resulting in high child and maternal mortality rate.
Cairn India’s focus in Barmer for health issues is on promoting
awareness and facilitating responsive and efficient healthcare
system. We have actively participated and initiated health camps to
make the masses conscious of water usage, immunization and
sanitation. As Cairn’s presence in Rajasthan has increased
through the years, we have balanced local concerns be it cataract,
malaria, immunization, TB eradication and neo-natal care by
supporting state health projects through doctors’ workshops,
training of health volunteers and helping provide health facilities.
The routes have been multiple - health camps, puppet shows,
street plays, folk songs, and magic shows to spread awareness
and deliver the message in an impactful manner. Cairn is also
managing mobile health vans to reach the community, in a bid to
improve access to healthcare particularly in the remote areas and
to less privileged sections, who find it difficult to travel miles to
reach healthcare facilities.
