PART ONE:
What are race, class, and sexuality?
Understanding: Race
RACE: is social constructed category that divides people into groups based on visible physical characteristics such as skin color, eye shape, hair texture, etc.
Although race is related to the physical body, the meaning we give these superficial differences between us are entirely socially constructed. There are NO actual genetic differences between the various races.
Because race categories are socially constructed, they change over time. Which categories we measure, and how we measure them, shifts.

Understanding: Ethnicity
Ethnicity: is a socially constructed category, a way of grouping people based on their shared culture, such as religion, language, and history.
The difference between “race” and “ethnicity” can be confusing. For example, “Asian American” is treated as a race, but “Chinese American” and “Japanese American” are treated as ethnicities because they have distinct languages and traditions.
In the United States, there is a great deal of pressure on ethnic minority groups to assimilate the norms, values, and characteristics of the majority ethnic group.

Different racial groups are just that– different. Even thought we often speak in terms of binaries (“minorities” verses “the majority”), it is important to realize that not all minority race and/or ethnic groups share the same characteristics, both between themselves and within themselves.

Toward A Critical Race Praxis for Educational Research:
Lessons from Affirmative Action and Social Science Advocacy

“Did affirmative action and the diversity rationale move us backwards?” This
question is often posed to invoke a discussion about lessons from affirmative action and
social science support for the diversity rationale. Yet, the question itself is polarizing by
virtue of offering only two divergent paths. On the “yes” side are grassroots
organizations, and critical race, legal, and educational scholars who critique the efficacy
of working inside historically racist legal parameters; on the “no” side, those engaged in
diversity rationale scholarship focused on the societal and educational benefits of a
racially diverse student body and others aligned with political lawyers and institutional
practitioners supporting affirmative action. As a consequence, while neoconservatives
work hand-in-hand to advance legal arguments grounded in problematic notions of
meritocracy and colorblindness, advocates for racial justice are divided. Given that the
educational benefits of diversity are no longer being legally contested and affirmative
action continues to undergo policy retrenchments that limit its utility, problematizing the
disconnect is not as much about this specific area of research or the future defense of

The groups (e.g. social class, family, football team etc.) which people belong to are an important source of pride and self-esteem. Groups give us a sense of social identity: a sense of belonging to the social world.
In order to increase our self-image we enhance the status of the group to which we belong. For example, England is the best country in the world! We can also increase our self-image by discriminating and holding prejudice views against the out group (the group we don’t belong to). For example, the Americans, French etc. are a bunch of losers!
Therefore, we divided the world into “them” and “us” based through a process of social categorization (i.e. we put people into social groups). This is known as in-group (us) and out-group (them).
Social identity theory states that the in-group will discriminate against the out-group to enhance their self-image.
The central hypothesis of social identity theory is that group members of an in-group will seek to find negative aspects of an out-group, thus enhancing their self-image.
Prejudiced views between cultures may result in racism; in its extreme forms, racism may result in genocide, such as occurred in Germany with the Jews, in Rwanda between the Hutus and Tutsis and, more recently, in the former Yugoslavia between the Bosnians and Serbs.
Henri Tajfel proposed that stereotyping (i.e. putting people into groups and categories) is based on a normal cognitive process: the tendency to group things together. In doing so we tend to exaggerate:
1. the differences between groups
2. the similarities of things in the same group.
We categorize people in the same way. We see the group to which we belong (the in-group) as being different from the others (the out-group), and members of the same group as being more similar than they are. Social categorization is one explanation for prejudice attitudes (i.e. “them” and “us” mentality) which leads to in-groups and out-groups.

Social Identity Theory Outline
Tajfel and Turner (1979) proposed that there are three mental processes involved in evaluating others as “us” or “them” (i.e. “in-group” and “out-group”. These take place in a particular order. The first is categorization. We categorize objects in order to understand them and identify them. In a very similar way we categorize people (including ourselves) in order to understand the social environment. Terms Of Reference Context Analysis
As a result of our gender process in the South America Region Office, including the ICRW gender assessment of the Indigenous People’s Rights Program, the South America Regional Office (SAMRO) has determined the need to carry out a thorough contextual analysis that would help SAMRO develop an intersectional framework for gender and indigenous people’s rights to serve the development of its programmatic strategies and actions.
SAMRO aims to apply this intersectional approach in order to identify and address the effects of intersectional forms of discrimination, especially on women (as opposed to addressing forms of discrimination in isolation of each other). This approach will help SAMRO to determine specific goals and outcomes that are better aimed at addressing specific indigenous peoples and their rights in each of our programs. It will help us build up a common position on these issues and improve our work on gender justice in the region.

ABSTRACT
While racial discrimination has become a more pertinent issue in society, racial discrimination is far most the worst. While there have been a lot of issues affecting the American Society, racial discrimination has caused more harm and caused chaos in the recent years in the wake of the recent police shooting of the black people in the community. According to Christine Hauser of New York Times (Hauser, 2016), “It spurred no organized street protests; no viral hashtags; no movement like Black Lives Matter, which was sparked by anger and despair over a wave of killings of African-Americans by law enforcement officials”. In the past discrimination was more widespread in most if not all states of America but in the recent years, though existent, it has come with less outcry and in a more hidden way. Racial discrimination has been quite evident in sectors like housing and employment among others. Others include the healthcare, housing, credit markets and consumer interactions. Discrimination is commonly defined as the unfair treatment to or against a person, based on their social class, wealth, popularity, racial origins, and ethnicity among many other religion (Blank, 2004).
INTRODUCTION
Racial discrimination according to the review done by Mary Blank and her associates can be measured through many ways. One of them may be laboratory tests and the other may be field-based experiments. Other methods may be a statistical inference, surveys, and records of experiences. These measures are used to measure discrimination that occurs at specific time frames. If a closer look is taken on the forms of discrimination that happen over time, a whole lot of issues can be sorted out. For example, generational discrimination may not adversely affect the current generation than it can affect the next. Through mistakes committed in the past like gender discrimination, racial discrimination in health, education, wealth and societal classes, opportunities for the future generation are limited. If poor health becomes an issue, then the future kids will struggle with limited resources (Blank, 2004).
LITERATURE REVIEW
The other reasons tend to cut across various institution based on various factors. Discrimination in places like elementary schools and grade school may affect a child’s academic performance in the college. This is due to the fact that discrimination affects the sub-conscience of a human being. This also happens in employment places and this means that certain opportunities are stifled and due to it. Another reason may be discrimination across independent organizations but yet in the long run connected by special factors. Measuring discrimination can be quite had as the timing is difficult to trace as well as the extent. Therefore accuracy can’t be.

Toward A Critical Race Praxis for Educational Research:
Lessons from Affirmative Action and Social Science Advocacy

“Did affirmative action and the diversity rationale move us backwards?” This
question is often posed to invoke a discussion about lessons from affirmative action and
social science support for the diversity rationale. Yet, the question itself is polarizing by
virtue of offering only two divergent paths. On the “yes” side are grassroots
organizations, and critical race, legal, and educational scholars who critique the efficacy
of working inside historically racist legal parameters; on the “no” side, those engaged in
diversity rationale scholarship focused on the societal and educational benefits of a
racially diverse student body and others aligned with political lawyers and institutional
practitioners supporting affirmative action. As a consequence, while neoconservatives
work hand-in-hand to advance legal arguments grounded in problematic notions of
meritocracy and colorblindness, advocates for racial justice are divided. Given that the
educational benefits of diversity are no longer being legally contested and affirmative
action continues to undergo policy retrenchments that limit its utility, problematizing the
disconnect is not as much about this specific area of research or the future defense of

The groups (e.g. social class, family, football team etc.) which people belong to are an important source of pride and self-esteem. Groups give us a sense of social identity: a sense of belonging to the social world.
In order to increase our self-image we enhance the status of the group to which we belong. For example, England is the best country in the world! We can also increase our self-image by discriminating and holding prejudice views against the out group (the group we don’t belong to). For example, the Americans, French etc. are a bunch of losers!
Therefore, we divided the world into “them” and “us” based through a process of social categorization (i.e. we put people into social groups). This is known as in-group (us) and out-group (them).
Social identity theory states that the in-group will discriminate against the out-group to enhance their self-image.
The central hypothesis of social identity theory is that group members of an in-group will seek to find negative aspects of an out-group, thus enhancing their self-image.
Prejudiced views between cultures may result in racism; in its extreme forms, racism may result in genocide, such as occurred in Germany with the Jews, in Rwanda between the Hutus and Tutsis and, more recently, in the former Yugoslavia between the Bosnians and Serbs.
Henri Tajfel proposed that stereotyping (i.e. putting people into groups and categories) is based on a normal cognitive process: the tendency to group things together. In doing so we tend to exaggerate:
1. the differences between groups
2. the similarities of things in the same group.
We categorize people in the same way. We see the group to which we belong (the in-group) as being different from the others (the out-group), and members of the same group as being more similar than they are. Social categorization is one explanation for prejudice attitudes (i.e. “them” and “us” mentality) which leads to in-groups and out-groups.

Social Identity Theory Outline
Tajfel and Turner (1979) proposed that there are three mental processes involved in evaluating others as “us” or “them” (i.e. “in-group” and “out-group”. These take place in a particular order. The first is categorization. We categorize objects in order to understand them and identify them. In a very similar way we categorize people (including ourselves) in order to understand the social environment. Terms Of Reference Context Analysis
As a result of our gender process in the South America Region Office, including the ICRW gender assessment of the Indigenous People’s Rights Program, the South America Regional Office (SAMRO) has determined the need to carry out a thorough contextual analysis that would help SAMRO develop an intersectional framework for gender and indigenous people’s rights to serve the development of its programmatic strategies and actions.
SAMRO aims to apply this intersectional approach in order to identify and address the effects of intersectional forms of discrimination, especially on women (as opposed to addressing forms of discrimination in isolation of each other). This approach will help SAMRO to determine specific goals and outcomes that are better aimed at addressing specific indigenous peoples and their rights in each of our programs. It will help us build up a common position on these issues and improve our work on gender justice in the region.

ABSTRACT
While racial discrimination has become a more pertinent issue in society, racial discrimination is far most the worst. While there have been a lot of issues affecting the American Society, racial discrimination has caused more harm and caused chaos in the recent years in the wake of the recent police shooting of the black people in the community. According to Christine Hauser of New York Times (Hauser, 2016), “It spurred no organized street protests; no viral hashtags; no movement like Black Lives Matter, which was sparked by anger and despair over a wave of killings of African-Americans by law enforcement officials”. In the past discrimination was more widespread in most if not all states of America but in the recent years, though existent, it has come with less outcry and in a more hidden way. Racial discrimination has been quite evident in sectors like housing and employment among others. Others include the healthcare, housing, credit markets and consumer interactions. Discrimination is commonly defined as the unfair treatment to or against a person, based on their social class, wealth, popularity, racial origins, and ethnicity among many other religion (Blank, 2004).
INTRODUCTION
Racial discrimination according to the review done by Mary Blank and her associates can be measured through many ways. One of them may be laboratory tests and the other may be field-based experiments. Other methods may be a statistical inference, surveys, and records of experiences. These measures are used to measure discrimination that occurs at specific time frames. If a closer look is taken on the forms of discrimination that happen over time, a whole lot of issues can be sorted out. For example, generational discrimination may not adversely affect the current generation than it can affect the next. Through mistakes committed in the past like gender discrimination, racial discrimination in health, education, wealth and societal classes, opportunities for the future generation are limited. If poor health becomes an issue, then the future kids will struggle with limited resources (Blank, 2004).
LITERATURE REVIEW
The other reasons tend to cut across various institution based on various factors. Discrimination in places like elementary schools and grade school may affect a child’s academic performance in the college. This is due to the fact that discrimination affects the sub-conscience of a human being. This also happens in employment places and this means that certain opportunities are stifled and due to it. Another reason may be discrimination across independent organizations but yet in the long run connected by special factors. Measuring discrimination can be quite had as the timing is difficult to trace as well as the extent. Therefore accuracy can’t be.
