Wordle is a free online tool that allows users to upload text and generate a "word cloud" visualizing how frequently each word is used, with larger font sizes for more common words. - Welcome to the quick Wordle tutorial. To get started, visit the site www.wordle.net.
- Wordle is a site that allows users to create “word clouds” about anything. For our purposes, you’re going to create a “word cloud” to synthesize the information you learned from the notes about example and illustration essays. To start creating your word cloud, simply click the “Create your own” link on the Wordle homepage.
- Once you’ve entered Wordle’s site, it is easy to create word clouds. Simply type in any text you wish to see on your word cloud. As you can see here, I have typed in a variety of words about writing essays. Repeat important words several times to give them prominence in your word cloud. After you’re satisfied with your text, click the “Go” button.
- This is the word cloud that was generated from the text I typed in on the previous screen. As you can see, the word “essays” is larger than any other words because it was repeated several times in the text. You can customize your word cloud’s colors, layout, and font.
- Once you are satisfied with your word cloud’s appearance, you will want to save your word cloud. Clicking “save” will put your word cloud in Wordle’s public gallery. Type in a title and whatever you would like to use as a username. I just used my first name. Click “ok” and your word cloud is saved.
- Once your word cloud is saved, you will be provided with the URL, or address of your word cloud. You should see something like this image under your word cloud.
- For our purposes, you only need to copy the actual URL of your word cloud. The highlighted area shows what your URL should look like. Don’t copy the quotation marks, and make sure you can see your word cloud title at the end of the URL. Copy that area and move on.
- For question 2 of your quiz, you need to paste the URL of your word cloud into the text box. Since you copied the URL, all you need to do is paste in the answer space. Your quiz should look like this once you’ve pasted the URL. After you’re finished with the quiz, be sure to save your responses and submit. If you have any questions, be sure to let me know.
