Evaluation Question 1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Screen grab from Mortified The Barbie magazine also inspired me when it came to doing my print work because that also gave the affect of things overlapping This screen grab inspired my own work. When I first saw this title sequence I loved how it connoted chaos and disorder. I believe that this had a stereotypical view of children being untidy and messy. This inspired my own work because I made images overlap and writing appear over the top of images. Although the titles sequence for Mortified has overlapping images and text so does the DVD case. This shows that the house style targeted the whole marketing campaign so that it could be widely recognised. I did this is in my own work, I tried to make sure that my title sequence related to my print work as well. My own Work
Comparison of rich and poor This screen crap helped a lot with the narrative to my titles because I wanted to make sure that it was clear to my viewing audience the comparison between rich and poor. The effect of having text boxes with the characters name by an image of them gives the audience a clear view of who everyone is. Therefore in my own work, as well as making the images have a stereotypical view of rich and poor, I also had text boxes saying which one was poor and rich. This showed a clear view of binary oppositions.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaEY04EX0vs This is a hyperlink to a you tube clip that shows you the start to the TV series of Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton’s Simple Life This screen grab was particularly useful for my Rich Girl titles because it had the denotations of what I wanted it to entail. It connotes flowers, stars, swirls, girly color palette. I used this similar affect quite a lot in my own sequence. I included a lot of flowers, hearts and swirls. However, I also used this in an opposite view, for the poor girl titles I used opposite affects. For example, darker color palette, icicles, scissors and less intriguing effects to show the comparison of rich and poor.
This screen crap helped my creativity with the technology I had available to me. This is a moving image of a bus moving across the bottom of the screen. After having a Technology week and being able to learn new techniques on Adobe Photoshop CS2 I was able to have moving images as well. Throughout my titles I had quite a few moving images. I believe this worked well because I didn’t have any moving film; I used photos instead so I thought that moving images would make it more interesting and not make the titles look so flat. These sorts of images simply from Google are what inspired my girly look.
My mood board I believe my titles have a lot of redundancy in them because it is very predictable, the viewing audience without having watched it would know what to expect if you told them it was going to be a title sequence about a rich and poor girl. The difference between Mortified and Walks of Life is that mine contained less characters and mine was comparing social class and the effects it can cause. Throughout my title sequence there were times where a second opinion would have maybe advanced my creativity so therefore there was a lot of self referential. I also tried to make sure my print work linked into my video work and that it had the same conventions
Tracy Beaker was also a main starting point for my media product. The title sequence inspired my creativity because it showed me how I needed to target my audience. It is more of an animated title yet, I used a lot of shapes throughout my titles and this was mainly inspired by Tracy Beaker. It helped with my ancillary texts as well I made use of Tracy Beakers Layout to produce my own magazine cover and DVD case. This example of a Barbie magazine connotes what I wanted mine to look like. It has text overlapping images, the same colour palette and a busy layout. I wanted my text to have a brand image so I carefully researched how real media texts made there marketing strategy all related to each other.
