Question 7
1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
2. In our preliminary lighting was limited. We
only used natural light and didn’t think about
how the lighting would affect the scene. This
made the scene very dull and made it hard to
create the right sort of atmosphere.
During our final film we focused a lot more on lighting
to create different effects. Low key down lighting
created mysterious atmosphere and gave Chris’
character a sinister appearance by the shadows that
were cast on his face. These effects brought the film
to life compared to the dullness that we had during
our preliminary. This has shown me how effective
lighting can be if it used in the right way.
3. The location we used in our preliminary
could have been better. Although it did
look like an office, it was not an ideal
location and brought the realism of the
film down. If we had looked harder we
could have found a more suitable location.
We looked hard to find a suitable location to
film in for our final film. The basement of the
manor provided a good place for the Maniac
to live as it was dusty and had a abandoned
look. The street we chose to film the fight
scene was small and rundown which is what
we were looking for. We also tried to use the
location to enhance our film. The garage door
for example we used to project titles onto.
This has shown me how to utilize surroundings
to make the film better.
4. Our preliminary was very rushed, meaning the problems
that I have highlighted in lighting and location arose. We
did not spend a lot of time planning what we were going
to do, but instead dived blindly head first into it. During
filming there was no real control or structure which lead
to confusion and ultimately a poorer final product.
During production of the final film we took a lot more
care in our organization. We began by sitting together to
come up with ideas and planning how we would go
about producing it. Care was taken to ensure everyone
knew what was going on and what there role was. This
made the filming process a lot smoother which in turn
allowed us more time to sit and edit it so that any
problems were ironed out to produce our final film. This
has shown how organization is key to create a successful
good quality film. Without it problems are created and
often not resolved.
