What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
The preliminary task which I did first before creating my magazine was to build my confidence with
using new technologies and bringing different platforms together in making a magazine such as
Photoshop, Fujifilm camera which has helped me improve on my media skills and greatly helped me
in the constructionof my magazine.
Photoshop was the programme that I used to create my front cover and edit the
images and features on the page to achieve a professional look whilst also improving
my skills with new technologies which I learnt the basic of in my preliminary task which
assisted me in the more complex editing in Photoshop for my main piece.
Video tutorials were readily available and helped me a lot throughoutthe full process and I feel the
proof is in my finished product! When completing my front cover I did a number of draft and then
got feedback from my fellow peers as to what I could improve on which has finally lead me to my
final piece.
InDesign which is very similar to Photoshop in some ways I used it to create my
contents and double page spread at first I found the change from Photoshopto
InDesign slightly daunting but once I got used to it I realised it was the best equipped
piece of software to create a magazine to a high professional standard. Again I created drafts of
these products then gained valuable feedback, which I would use to improve my magazine which has
leaded me to my final piece. The various tools in InDesign made it possible to complete my contents
and double page spread because without InDesign my magazine would not be completed to such a
high standard with all the skills I learned through the preliminary task etc. I feel it has benefited me
in creating my final product overall.
Blogger is a blogging website which I used to present my as coursework through the use of new
technologies and software’s to present it in new and exciting ways. I have never owned a blog before
this so overall this task was a learning experience I used a range of social networking also such as
Facebook, twitter and Instagram to create my portfolio all in all linking different technologies
together
Padlet is a new website that I had never used before so using this new website helped me gain new
skills in getting feedback from my target audience and prided a way for my target audience to
communicate with me as I could make padlet available through emails, Facebook etc. by embedding
them to reach a lot more of my target audience. I used padlet to receive feedback on my magazine
photos and what I could do to improve them and make my magazine as good as it can be.
Survey monkey is the platform which I used to create and distribute my questionnaire to gather
information on what I should add to my magazine and any other additional ideas which would
improve my final product. I used survey monkey for both my preliminary task and the research for
my music magazine at first I found the new interface for survey monkey a little challenging but once I
got used to it I was then able to create very professional looking questionnaires and in turn received
a lot of feedback on what I can do and improve on with my magazine.
SLR Camera is a type of camera which captures high quality shots. I used a Sony SLR camera which I
had never used before for my music magazine photo shoot. I had to take into consideration high
angle, low angle, eye level and other media conventions to ensure the photos taken were of a high
quality, other features I had to use were lighting I had to adapt to new environments to ensure the
lighting was correct, the flash on the camera ensured the photos were visible and not blurred.
Prezi was the main format that I used to display my tasks, before this website I had previously used
PowerPoint but now that I have gotten used to the interface I find Prezi to be better at delivering
high quality professional looking slides in comparison to PowerPoint and I found it to be the best
method of displaying my findings and research.
When doing my main task I had to adapt quite quickly to all these new software’sand learn how to
use them very quickly, if it wasn’t the impossible job of editing on Photoshopand creating my
contents and double page spread on InDesign, also the new software’s such as survey monkey and
all was quite difficult to understand and navigate through sometimes, but now that I have learn how
to use all these new software’s and websites I am confident if I were to make another magazine I
would do a much better job as I am more equipped to edit and design one.
