Evaluation Question 6
Equipment and Computer Software
Programmes
The camera I used whilst photographing all the images for my magazine was
the Sony WX350 Cyber shot Compact Camera. As this was a 18 megapixel
camera, I found this really benefitted me as I was able to take professional
looking photographs without having to edit them much. The camera had
various features available such as flash, auto-focus, 20x optical zoom and filters
which I was able to use when photographing if needed. I didn’t use any other
camera equipment such as a tripod as I felt I was able to work fine without
one. As I was taking photographs from various angles and shots, I needed to
move the camera around often so found it was best to work without a tripod.
Throughout my production from the preliminary exercise to the evaluation, I
mainly used my Samsung laptop which allowed me to access various
programmes and software to help in the creation of my magazine.
Adobe InDesign was the programme I
used for the final production exercise of
my magazine. I found this was a great
programme to used as it was gave my
whole magazine a professional look and
allowed me to lay out everything how I
wanted. At first, I found it was quite
difficult to use as I was new to it and
wasn’t sure how to operate it. After
watching tutorials, I was able to grasp the
concept and found it worked well for me.
Adobe Fireworks was the second
programme which helped me in the
creation of my magazine. If I ever
found any difficulties with
InDesign, I used Fireworks as a
back-up which helped me put
everything together. As I have
previous experience working with
Fireworks, I found this was very
easy to use and was a good
programme overall.
Adobe Photoshop was the final programme which I used for my final
production exercise. This was used to edit and adjust the photographs I
took to make them look as professional as I could get them. By making
certain tweaks I was able to give them a perfect finish and present them to
the audience in a way which they would expect to see in magazines. I had
previously used Photoshop once before so didn’t find the programme
difficult to use.
Online Applications
Prezi I used numerous times throughout my coursework. I found
it was a great alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint and allowed
me to present my work in a more effective manner.
Survey Monkey is a site
designed to create
questionnaires and surveys. I
used this to create my target
audience questionnaire and
found it was a quick and easy
app to use.
Each time I created a document on Microsoft Word or a
similar document, I would upload it onto my Weebly using
Scribd. This just made looking through the document easier
and presented it in a better way.
Slides was another online presentation application I used.
This was another alternative to PowerPoint which allowed
me to present my work in a different way. I did find a few
issues whilst using this programme but managed to
overcome them.
To answer one of my
evaluation questions, I used
Windows Movie Maker. This
allowed me to efficiently add
images and include voiceovers
without any hassles.
This website allowed
me to upload my
PowerPoints and
presented them in an
easy way.
Zoho was an online app
which allowed me to
create presentations in an
effective way and present
them. This was very easy
to use as it had themes I
could choose from and
made it easy to operate.
Emaze was a programme
very similar to Zoho. It
was an online
presentation creator with
already created themes on
there for me to choose
from. Again it was easy to
use and I had no issues.
I feel that through the whole process of
constructing and creating my music
magazine, I have learnt a significant amount
about the different technologies involved in
the creation of a product like my own. At
the start of the course when I was creating
my preliminary task, I knew very little about
technologies therefore created a very basic
and unprofessional looking magazine.
However over the past few months, I have
learnt a great deal about various different
programmes and software's which have
enabled me to create a magazine of a higher
standard in comparison to before which will
hopefully benefit me in the future.
I presented my whole coursework from
the start to finish on an online blogging
website called Weebly. I thought this was
a great site to use as it presented my work
effectively and was fairly easy to get used
to and work with.
