The student used several software programs to construct their magazine including Blogger, Survey Monkey, SoundCloud, GoAnimate, Prezi, Photoshop, and PowToon. Blogger was used to organize research and coursework. Survey Monkey helped gather audience feedback through questionnaires which informed magazine content. SoundCloud allowed the student to record podcasts analyzing music genres. GoAnimate and Prezi were used to present research findings visually through animations and slideshows, with Prezi being more effective. Photoshop grew in usefulness as the student learned its vector tools. PowToon also created clear visual presentations but took a long time to produce each slide.
2. Introduction
From
constructing my magazine I have
learnt much new software which has
helped improved the quality of my
magazine. The technologies I have used
for this project are go animate, survey
monkey, Blogger, Photoshop, Prezi,
soundcloud, slideshare and Powtoon.
3. Blogger
In
the initial set up of our blogs we used
blogger which allowed us to create an
account where we could store all out
reseach, planning, construction ect so
that it is easy to locate for the examiner as
well as out subject teachers. I really liked
using blogger and it help me to get my
work organised in an effect way.
4. Survey Monkey
When researching for my audience I used survey monkey
which helped me to gain feedback from the audience
finding out their interests such as what their favourite music
genre is and what aspects of the magazine they are most
interested in etc as to build a strong knowledge of the
audience’s needs and wants. To get a good size of responses
I posted a link to the questionnaire on facebook which is a
popular social networking site for my audience, by doing this
I got a good number of response to help me with my
research. When creating this questionnaire I simply made
questions and then added answer which the audience
could reply with. I then analysed the results helping me to
decide what feature I should focus on within the magazine
as well as what genre was most popular with the audience.
For the results it shows me the number of people that
responded to the questionnaire. The results are shown in a
clear bar chart which was very effective as it helped me to
analysis the results quickly. For each question it shows the
percentages as well as the number of people for that
answer.Survey monkey effectively helped me in the
audience research as it clearly showed figures and visual
presentation of what answers where most successful.
5. Sound cloud
Another piece of software I used to help me in my research
was soundcloud as I created moodboard based oh each
music genre to help me get a better understand of each
genre’s layout as well as their iconography and mise en
scene. For each of these moodboards I created a sound
clip to go along with it talking about each one and
analysing them. I did this through the use of soundcloud
where I could record my voice off my phone and easily
upload it to my account then link it on my blog. At first I
didn't like how soundcloud worked but when i knew what
to do I then found soundcloud to be very beneficial for my
coursework as when I was looking at my coursework I could
easily record my thoughts and then edit them to create a
podcast about my findings.
6. Go animate
On from this I used Go animate to help me
represent my findings of the research of an
already existing magazine: Rocksound. This
allowed me to show my findings in an animation
piece using two characters but this limited me to a
maximum of 10 dialogues speeches so I had to be
effective with what I wrote out as to get the most
out of each sentence.I found go animate to be
an ineffective software as yes you could create an
animation clip but there wasn't enough time within
each frame of the animation to expand on
relevant information and pinpoint key aspects.
7. Prezi
I also used Prezi which is like a slideshow but
has a better quality, this helped me to show
my research well in a visual way through the
use of images and text. I found prezi to be the
most effective when presenting my idea
purely because of how easy it was to use as
well as you could make the prezi interactive
and add voice overs and music as to better
represent my ideas.
8. Photoshop
For the construction process of my magazine I used
Photoshop. At first I found this software really hard to use as
I didn’t understand it but now that I have worked on the
magazine it has helped me to understand the software
more by seeing different vector tools and what effect they
can create. I used photoshop for my construction mainly
helping me to create the magazine. I first i didn't like using
photoshop as it was complicated but after exploring the
vector tools and what effect they could create, I
understood the features and different effects I could
create through the use of different vector tools. After
understanding this software i have learnt to like it as it is very
effective in the way you can design things.
9. Powtoon
Powtoon
was difficult to use as it took so
long to create each slide but I feel it does
have it's advantages as it creates a good
visual presentation to show ideas and
ideologies clearly.
