What have you learnt from your audience
feedback?
Audience feedback is essential for this part of the
course as it's good to understand what other
people's opinions of the products are, from
audience research I can see where I have
excelled, and also be able to recognise areas
for improvement, as a group we set out a focus
group to watch our film trailer and also to give
opinion on our poster and magazine. All people
present in the focus group were in our target
audience of 16-25
For question two of the focus group we asked
“are there any trailers you are aware of which
are similar to SHATTERED which you have
viewed?”, most people simply said no,
however, a few stated that our film trailer was
very similar to Paranormal Activity due to the
usage of the whole film being inside a house.
For question three we asked “what impressions
did you get of the characters portrayed? List
any personality traits which you noticed and felt
were true to typical students”, this question
generated a lot of mixed responses, some
thought that the characters were being happy
where as others thought that there were signs
of stubbornness, overall most people said that
there was signs of anger in the trailer, which
was evident through Lucas' actions towards
Matt
Question four asks “What predictions could you
make for the film from seeing the trailer? (for
example, who are the people shown in the
flashbacks?” the majority of people who
responded to this question gathered that it was
'the girls mum' which suggests that our way of
portraying it was successful.
For question five we asked “do you think there
was any dialogue that was impactful” some said
that the screaming when Matt was falling down
the stairs was impactful, however, someone
also slated the lack of dialogue but backed up
the point with “actions speak louder than words”

For question six we asked “what do you think is
the cause of the horror in the film?” this was
very unpredictable as nearly everyone said a
different reason, some thought the diary was
cursed and some thought that there was a
murderer present, I think this is good because it
shows that there are many horror factors for
the film trailer,
Question seven saw us asking “were there any
moments which you considered to be
frightening or that had a direct effect on you?”
The responses to this were pretty similar with
most people saying that Matt being thrown
down the stairs and the figure dressed up was
a truly horrifying moment for the viewers.

The last but one (question eight) question asks
“what does the title Shattered make you think
of?”, the responses to this were varied, as
many thought of shattered ina physical aspect
such as a mirror being broken, then others saw
it in a mental aspect such as dreams being
shattered/the characters being upset.
For the last question, we simply asked if the
viewers of the film trailer would go to see the
film if it were to be released as a full feature
film. The majority of the voters said yes which is
brilliant as it suggests our trailer was successful
in drawing in an audience, the responses that
said no, only said no because they weren't
interested in the horror genre.
After analysing the trailer, I asked them to
analyse the poster, some feedback included
things such as “the image is too big on the
page” and that the font of the title is too bold,
making it look cartoon-like, this was acceptable
feedback as I could see the problems after
finishing the products.
The focus group also analysed the magazine
front cover, they stated that the front cover
initially was good and had professional aspects,
however, the usage of colours were bad as it
didn't follow any huge structure. Overall, the
usage of a focus group to analyse my products
has been successful as I have learnt new ways
to improve my products for the future.
