While Miramax, owned by Disney, has distributed horror films in the past through its label, Twisted Pictures may be a better fit as it specializes in more adult-themed horror films like the popular Saw franchise, known for graphic violence and gore. Twisted Pictures' experience with successful R-rated horror films means it could effectively distribute one with a similar style and rating.

1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and
why?
When making a horror film that is going to be distributed then there are
many different film institutions that would be considered for our film. As it
is a horror movie, then we would look towards a company such as Miramax
as they have a history of distributing films such as Sinister. The Miramax
company is owned by Disney and the fact that they use the Miramax label
when distributing horror films shows that Disney wants to show the
differences between films such as Saw and other Disney films. The fact that
Disney is seen as a family company means that the extremely violent horror
movies that they make have to be given under a different name. As our film
is a horror we think that a film institution such as Twisted Pictures would be
better suited to distribute our film because they have a reputation for
having a lot more adult themed films as appose to Disney as previously
mentioned. Twisted Pictures are infamous for distributing the SAW franchise
which are known for their gruesome death and torture scenes and more
often than not these films will have a age rating certificate of 18 due to
their gory nature. This is why we feel a company such as Twisted Pictures
would be better suited to distribute our film because we would ideally like
our film to include this type horror and gore, with this company having prior
experience in making these types of films popular as the SAW franchise for
example was very popular and successful.
