1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
We analysed every piece of research we have looked into
to try and create our piece to be as alike to real media
products as possible.
Firstly we looked at that of artists and how the different
genres are easily recognised by their target audiences.
2. Artist
Develop the forms and conventions:
Our artist’s style was inspired by that of Lauren
Aquilina’s. We researched into her as a female music
video artist and this is what inspired us to create our
styling around her. This is also a development on the
form of a real media product as we have developed our
own interpretation of her video/artist image.
3. Digipack & Album Cover
The digipack was also well researched and we looked at
the artist ‘Lana Del Ray as her album cover was exactly
what we were looking for. We were inspired by it’s
simplicity and how although simple it still portrayed
beauty and was perfect for the piece we had created.
4. Music Video
We looked at creating a very emotional video with a lot of
power , strength and fight to it. We also wanted to created
the more vulnerable image with our artist and so used a
softer colouration for the music videos appearance. As
you will probably see in our planning and research we
were inspired by Gabrielle Aplin’s music video for this
soft look.
5. Challenging Conventions
We have however challenged the conventions of a real
music video with the use of an unknown background to a
song. There are usually hints in the video to the artists
past and a narrative structure in the video.
Ours is a little more challenging for the audience as it is
constantly unclear of how she’s really feeling. This is
exactly what we wanted the audience to feel as this
created a mystery about our artist and through out the
song she didn’t know how she felt herself so it was as if
the audience were in her position.
