  4. It’s been a busy year so far for the future of the book, Infact everything’ s changing THE NOW of the Book Like Apple, if:book’s latest project is still in the BETA phase.. Will be available v shortly as a download The iPAd isn’t a technological breakthrough It’s a shift in our view of networked digital culture Something to curl up with and enjoy
  5. Why O why…have I spent so much time promoting a particular Platform rather than the thing itself?? Why this complicated way to bring young people to great words??!
  6. The HOTBOOK funded by Esmee Fairbairn, supported by Everythingweb.net Like the iPAD it’s not quite available yet Download to your server a thing ike a social network Sent from the future by the curator A framework kids will navigate intuitively - but its safe THE STORY…..
  7. It contains:
  8. So what’s inside? Classic texts presented in new ways Different kinds of writing from nursery rhymes to origin of the species Shot in second life Contemporsry writing animated and illuminated Writing of the Future - ‘Ah Brownskin.

Research by Booktrust at the pilot stage showed it was Very popular with lower ability children We had higher abilitiy pupils at the launch talking about how much they’d enjoyed it - less ‘fooled’ by the story WE think this is for ALL abilities - Daljit Nagra Sasha Hoare and Ellie and Jo A fantastic set of teacher’s notes with exciting and testing activites Around each ‘litch bit’… THIS ISNT A WAY TO CON PEOPLE INTO BOOKS, IT IS THE FUTURE OF THE BOOK

  11. Meanwhile ‘digital natives’ take certain things for granted
  12. So.. Fantastic new forms emerging … Schools need to be nurturing the creative readers of these forms
