2. In our preliminary task, our main focus was to make sure to show the character
and props within our scene. We did this by lining up our tripod to the correct
height to ensure the camera was not slanted. We repeated this every time we
wanted to change our shot type, From high angle to low angle etc.
We had experienced a difficult time trying to make our filming close to perfect so
that the type of shot we were filming could be easily identified.
Having learnt from our preliminary task we were confident to film our thriller
without taking up as much time as we did beforehand. Our experience, filming was
easier, quicker and most importantly more accurate, as every detail we wanted to
capture we did, within our frame. An example of this was our bedroom
scene, where the mystery person revealed himself through the mirror we placed in
the middle of the bedroom. This was to make it look from the protagonist’s
perspective.
FRAMING
3. • Our continuity had drastically improved from our preliminary task, on our thriller film a
range of different shots were used to make sure it can run as smoothly as possible
where as our preliminary was quite limited because we did not use a range of shots and
when did not flow.
• Also the types of shots we used were quite basic such as close up, long shot and
medium long shot.
• In our actual opening sequence we used many shots to make sure our film had strong
continuity such as high angle shot, extreme close up, 180 degree angle shot to show that
everything within the Mise-en-scene was exactly the same.
• This included: Clothing, lighting and props etc.
• However, we would not say that we are excellent at continuity editing and shots but we
have learnt a range of skills and knowledge on how we could improve next time round.
• There were aspects of our sequence that could have been cut a bit more smoothly such
as, the change between each scene, but it does work quite well as it builds the suspense
that we were looking for.
CONTINUITY
4. For the opening of our thriller film we used a range of different shot types to
establish our location and relationship between the characters. This was in order
for our audience to identify the story line and the genre of film we made.
The types of shots we used to build up suspense throughout our sequence were:
•Extreme long shot of The protagonist walking very slowly in a long off white
dress.
•Over the shoulder shot of the protagonist walking through the alley way and a
mystery person coming behind her.
•Point of view shot of the unknown phone call the protagonist received this was
to show the significance and, give a leading clue to the audience.
•In our preliminary task we not confident to use a wide range of shots, as a result
we only filmed shots that we were most comfortable with i.e. close up.
