Media Evaluation
Q5) How did you attract/address
your audience?
Before and after we created our film we created
questionnaires, which were put out on the social
networking site Facebook, in order to address our
target audience.
The results we got from the first questionnaire gave
us an insight into what we needed to include in our
film to address our target audience.
Furthermore, the questionnaire we put out after
the audience had seen our film showed how we
had/hadn’t targeted the audiences expectations.
Similarities between the questionnaires
In both
questionnaires
our audience
easily recognised
that it was
meant to be in
the horror genre.
This shows that
the way in which
we edited our
film and our use
of iconography
(such as eerie
music) did our
storyline justice
and pleased our
target audience.
Likewise, the audience found our storyline and the
final product acceptable for those as young as 15 to
watch. This means that we succeeded in keeping our
film acceptable enough to be classified by the BBFC as
a 15 according to its regulations, for example, by not
being too gory and not a lot of strong language.
Furthermore, this doesn’t limit our target audience as
much, especially as teenagers are usually desperate to
see the latest horror movie releases.
Differences between our questionnaires
Despite the fact we had a mixed
response to who would watch our
film before it was produced, once
it was out their, our findings were a
lot more successful.
The fact that one member of the
audience in the pre-production
survey had said:
Suggests that our film is a lot more
playable than marketable.
This could cause us problems when
distributing our film if it was
produced by a mainstream
company. However if we chose to
create our film with an
independent distributor, our target
audience would already be there.

A Specific Audience?
We were aware that having 3 female main
characters could limit our audience, however, this
subverts the stereotype of females being ‘weak’
or ‘scared’ and so we decided that this would be
an unusual film to make and it would not be what
the audience expected.
Subsequently, when we analysed the feedback
from our surveys, some thought our film could be
gender specific and all of these responses said if
so, it would be for a female audience.
Considering this, we decided that our villain
would be male, making the ‘baddie’ seem more
intimidating and scary and the ‘goodie’ more
inferior and heroic (when he is defeated).
All in all, one member of our audience even
wrote their view that our film was…

One of the comments on our final questionnaire
confirmed one of our own criticisms of our film:
We were aware that some of our scenes were a
little dark and so this could be an improvement
we would make if we remade the opening or if
we were lucky enough for a company to want
produce it professionally.
All in all we were extremely happy with the
feedback we received from our questionnaires.
Furthermore, this is some of the feedback we
received when posting our film to our audience
on Facebook.

  • 1. Media Evaluation Q5) How did you attract/address your audience?
  • 2. Before and after we created our film we created questionnaires, which were put out on the social networking site Facebook, in order to address our target audience. The results we got from the first questionnaire gave us an insight into what we needed to include in our film to address our target audience. Furthermore, the questionnaire we put out after the audience had seen our film showed how we had/hadn’t targeted the audiences expectations.
  • 3. Similarities between the questionnaires In both questionnaires our audience easily recognised that it was meant to be in the horror genre. This shows that the way in which we edited our film and our use of iconography (such as eerie music) did our storyline justice and pleased our target audience. Likewise, the audience found our storyline and the final product acceptable for those as young as 15 to watch. This means that we succeeded in keeping our film acceptable enough to be classified by the BBFC as a 15 according to its regulations, for example, by not being too gory and not a lot of strong language. Furthermore, this doesn’t limit our target audience as much, especially as teenagers are usually desperate to see the latest horror movie releases.

Differences between our questionnaires Despite the fact we had a mixed response to who would watch our film before it was produced, once it was out their, our findings were a lot more successful. The fact that one member of the audience in the pre-production survey had said: Suggests that our film is a lot more playable than marketable. This could cause us problems when distributing our film if it was produced by a mainstream company.   • 5. A Specific Audience? We were aware that having 3 female main characters could limit our audience, however, this subverts the stereotype of females being ‘weak’ or ‘scared’ and so we decided that this would be an unusual film to make and it would not be what the audience expected. Subsequently, when we analysed the feedback from our surveys, some thought our film could be gender specific and all of these responses said if so, it would be for a female audience. Considering this, we decided that our villain would be male, making the ‘baddie’ seem more intimidating and scary and the ‘goodie’ more inferior and heroic (when he is defeated).   • 6. Improvements? One of the comments on our final questionnaire confirmed one of our own criticisms of our film: We were aware that some of our scenes were a little dark and so this could be an improvement we would make if we remade the opening or if we were lucky enough for a company to want produce it professionally.
  • 7. All in all we were extremely happy with the feedback we received from our questionnaires. Furthermore, this is some of the feedback we received when posting our film to our audience on Facebook.
