The Sinukwan Festival is celebrated annually by the
Kapampangan. It is a weeklong festival that truly
captures the Kapampangan spirit. The main highlight
is the street dance competition where students from
different municipalities of the province battle it out
with their colorful costumes and headdresses to the
tune of the famous Kapampangan song ATIN CU
PUNG SINGSING.
Below is a picture of street dancers.
Aside from street parades, cultural events are also held
where organizations from various groups participate
through painting and photography exhibitions, concerts, and
dance performances, among others The Kapampangans take
pride in not just singing their famous “Atin Cu Pung Singsing”
but also in dancing. Thus, there is the “Atin Cu Pung
Singsing” folk dance performance. A folk dance celebrates
the cultural roots of a group of people. It is typically
performed as a form of ritualistic entertainment at social
gatherings. A folk dance starts and ends with a Saludo. In
Saludo, partners bow to each other, to the audience,
opposite dancers or to the neighbors with feet together. This
term is of Spanish origin.
