Q2. How does your product
engage with audiences?
Engaging Audiences
• Blumler and Katz states that audiences use media to gratify needs (the uses and
gratifications model of audience behaviour). Our film opening provides audiences
with topicality (surveillance), entertainment, suspense and diversion.
• Our film opening consists of fast paced editing where we take our audience into
the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence and business.This engages the audience
as our production focuses on a main topic which is in the news at the moment.
• The visual spectacle helps compliment the entertainment. We have produced
drone shots and beautiful scenes of CanaryWharf, we filmed shots of tall buildings
and the reveal of the life size robot helps contribute to the entertainment.
Content
• Our product will attract and engage audiences of our target market, 15-35
year olds, due to the sense of action and danger included in it.
• It includes a sense of danger and threat as the robot starts to develop his
own sense of will and by the end he has acquired his target,Toni, because he
was trying to enhance his technology
• The final scene shows Rick trying to stabTony in the hand, which provides
the audience with an exhilarating piece of suspense engaging them further,
to the extent where they would want to carry on watching the whole film.
Mis-en-Scene
• The whole tech aspect of our project is used well as we have presented it well. We
have embedded an advert into our opening, as well as a news report and interview.
• As a group, we believed that the filming went well in our production and the final
outcome looked good.We thought that this was partly down to the Mis-en-Scene
that we created in our filming. For example for the serious business scenes, we
filmed in an office environment and created specific articles, using Photoshop, to
have on the tables to create the setting.As well as this we also went into London to
film myself walking to the office and looking at the advert.We did this so that we
had an amazing background setting of various different buildings to keep the
audience intrigued in what they were watching.
