Evaluation question 2 - How does
your media product represent
particular social groups?
Ways of representing social groups
We can get ideas about how someone is presented to us or re-
presented to us through their costume, dialogue, their actions and
their body language or non-verbal clues.
We can determine ideas about:
• Class
• Race
• Gender
• Age
• Sexuality
• Ethnicity
• Costumes
First let’s look at the characters in our
film opening
Bad guys
In our film, we have presented one of the most widely used groups of people in the
movies. Such characters are represented in many films, they play the role of the bad
guys. They like to to mock others. At the beginning of the film sequences bad guy
waiting for his victim. He is waiting for the main character impatiently, because he
wants to get hurt. He is around the corner, waiting - it means that he has to prepare in
advance for the meeting. He also looks very self-confident and sure likes it confirms the
strength.
Also in the film shows another social group. The victims -
people who are bullied, insulted them. This can happen
for various reasons, even if they are a bit not like the
others. Such people feel uncomfortable in public, they are
afraid of the world. Our hero looks very frightened and
humiliated. He almost cried. We specifically focused on
his face, so that the audience saw his emotions.
Victims
Good guy
One of the representatives of the social groups are the good
guys. They usually try to solve the problems of others and
help them. They are well learn and do not break the law. They
represent the example of good behavior. Usually such people
are very popular and inspire respect. Our hero in a sequence
of the film helps to avoid the victim of physical violence. He
protects boy and gives him a chance to escape.
