Evaluation Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product uses a variety of conventions that are used in real media
products. The screenshots above shows a scene in my music video that resembles
closely to a scene in a mainstream rap music video (K-Koke – Nothing to something).
This performance scene was shot in a music studio to give the viewer a sense of the
artists positive work ethic/ progression towards a wealthy lifestyle, which is a
common convention that you would expect to see in a rap video; opposing
stereotypes artists of being antisocial and involved in criminal activities.
My music video consists a mix use of performance, narrative and concept based shots. Thus
allowing us to use a wide range of camera shots when filming, such as follow on shots, high
angle, low angle as well as using concept based shots of airplanes in the sky, video games to
represent lyric content and when synchronised to match with the music, the end result proved to
be successful.
The media products subverts the typical expectations that you would expect to see in a
rap/grime genre and imposes a less aggressive side of this genre.
The album cover idea came from a rap album originally by a mainstream artist named ASAP
Rocky; PESO
Our group decided to keep the main artist in colour and edit the background image in a greyscale
format.
