Assessment
AS
Learning
• more commonly known as formative and diagnostic
assessment
• the use of a task or an activity for the purpose of
determining student progress during a unit or block of
instruction
• check for students’ understanding and make
adjustments to the teaching process
Assessment for Learning
• It requires careful design on the part of teachers so that
they use the resulting information to determine not only
what students know, but also to gain insights into how,
when, and whether students apply what they know.
• Formative assessment information can come from
questioning and discussion with students, from their work
(quizzes, assignments, homework), or from direct
observation of students doing their work.
Assessment for Learning
• often known as summative assessment
• is used to confirm what students know and can do, to
demonstrate whether they have achieved the curriculum
outcomes, and, occasionally, to show how they are placed
in relation to others.
• the use of a task or an activity to measure, record and
report on a student’s level of achievement in regards to
specific learning expectations
Assessment of Learning
• the use of a task or an activity to allow students the
opportunity to use assessment to further their own
learning
• requires teacher to undergo training on how to assess
learning and be equipped with the competencies
needed in performing their work as assessors
Assessment as Learning
• Assessment as learning focuses on the role of the
student as the critical connector between assessment
and learning.
• Students monitor their own learning and use the
feedback from this monitoring to make adjustments,
adaptations, and even major changes in what they
understand.
Assessment as Learning
• It is purpose that dictates how assessment is constructed and
used.
• It is important for educators to understand the three assessment
purposes, recognize the need to balance among them, know
which one they are using and why, and use them all wisely.
How are we going to use these assessments?

Editor's Notes

  1. Formative Assessment is a type of assessment that is used to monitor the learning progress of the students during or after instruction Diagnostic Assessment is given before instruction where it aims to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the students with regrads to a particular topic So when is assessment for learning done inside the classroom? Base on the deifinition of formative and diagnostic assessment assessment for leanring is done before during or after instruction Assessment for Learning emphasizes as well on determining student progress. How are your students doing, performing inside the classroom? Are there any progress on their learning? These are few of the questions in assessment for learning ON the process of assessment of learning, students must understand what they are to learn and what they are expected to do as a teacher we need to share the learning intentions to the students as well

  3. Summative assessment is usually given at the end of a course or unit, examples of these are unit test chapter test long tests and final test It certifies what the students can do and what they know throughout the a certain period. It is also designed to provide evidence of the students’ achievements to parents, co teachers and to the students themselves. The result of assessment of learning will also serve as basis in planning future learning goals
  4. This is where self assessment goes in students must understand about themselves as learners they must be aware of how they learn. They can also reflect on their work through self assessment and decide by themselves what their next learning would be. It also helps the students become more responsible for their own learming. For teacchers, being an assessor pushes them to undergo training for them to understand fully and perform better in their role of assessing the students. Teacher and students can work together in setting the students’mgoal and monitor them in their progress toward their goals.
