Purpose of the Media

2.  Each of these different tools and objects serves a different purpose.All of
them have been created to serve that specific purpose.

3.  You Must – be able to tell what the purpose
of the media is.
 You Should – be able to explain the different
purposes of the media, giving examples for
each sector.
 Amazing If - you can evaluate how the
purposes of the media are different.

4. John Reith (1889-1971)
was the founder of the
BBC.
He was its first general
manager when it was
set up as the British
Broadcasting
Company in 1922; and
he was its first director
general when it
became a public
corporation in 1927.

5.  BBC's core mission is to 'inform, educate and
entertain‘, as set out by the BBC's founder
Director General, Lord Reith, around 50 years
ago.

6.  To inform – to deliver information to the
public. Being properly informed will
contribute to make an educated person.
But, what is “being properly informed”?
Can you be “properly informed by the
mass media”?
 To entertain – to make people feel
good!
