Kengeri to be tourist spot
Plan To Develop 800 Acres Of Forest Area At Rs 40 Lacs
Bangalore: The government has taken up an ambitious plan to develop over
800 acres of forest land off Kengeri into an eco-tourism destination.
Growing pressure on land in the periphery of Bangalore is threatening to
encroach upon the last few patches of forest lands. This is one of our efforts to
protect the forested area around the city, Western Ghats Task Force chairman
Anantha Hegde Ashisara told reporters here on Thursday.
The forest areas near Hoskere village with a dozen lakes have the scope for
being developed into an eco-tourism destination, he added.
Hegde said the government has already drawn a blueprint to develop the
existing forest land into eco-tourism destination at a cost of Rs 40 Lacs. The
tourism department, forest department and lake development authority will
jointly initiate the work soon. On the recommendations of the task force, he
said the forest department as a first step has initiated a survey to identify the
forest land near Hoskere village. They zeroed in on the idea mainly because
they found hundreds of herbal trees and plants in the area.

Growing pressure on land in the periphery of Bangalore is threatening to encroach upon the last few patches of forest lands. This is one of our efforts to protect the forested area around the city, Western Ghats Task Force chairman Anantha Hegde Ashisara told reporters here on Thursday. The forest areas near Hoskere village with a dozen lakes have the scope for being developed into an eco-tourism destination, he added. Hegde said the government has already drawn a blueprint to develop the existing forest land into eco-tourism destination at a cost of Rs 40 Lacs. The tourism department, forest department and lake development authority will jointly initiate the work soon. On the recommendations of the task force, he said the forest department as a first step has initiated a survey to identify the forest land near Hoskere village.
