Editor's Notes

  • #4 “not only is there an art in knowing a thing, but also a certain art in teaching it”….. Public speakingis the process ofspeaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intendedTo educate.. To inform… to entertain… to influence.. About 10 percent of the population loves public speaking. Another 10 percent are genuinely terrified. The rest of us – roughly the 80 percent in the middle – get butterflies, get anxious, don’t sleep much the night before – but we know that we’re going to live through it. It’s just not much fun.
  • #6 The purpose may cover more than 1 of purposes listed. A combination may be necessary or helpfulPay attention to the situation and prepare to be sensitive to it. For instance telling a joke before addressing a group about employee cutbacks is probably not appropriate!
  • #8 Capture attentionEnthusiasm and EmotionIndicate the need for the speechMakes the audience want to know moreShort stories and real life is a good start
  • #9 The largest part of the speechContains the information you want to tellConsist of several major points surrounded by a central objective
  • #10 Example– session on career in cricket… so who wants to be the next sachin…
  • #11 Have to come out of our comfort zone… story..Here’s the Good news: with a little work, we can turn those butterflies to our advantage. One of the best ways to overcome the fear of giving a speech or presentationIncreases confidenceIncreases enthusiasm of speaker
