Argumentative Essay On Anxiety
"Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy." (www.healthy place.com) Many people have trouble accomplishing what
they want to do in life because of health issues. A main health issue people suffer from is anxiety. There are different types of anxiety disorders you
can have. Each one of them hold you back from doing what you want to succeed in life and may even cause you to make bad choices.
Anxiety is losing yourself from reality and being disconnected from the present moment, other people, and yourself. It can keep you from doing things
you want to accomplish in life. Achieving your goals is tough enough, but if you suffer from anxiety it becomes even more difficult. I was spending
every day worried about how...show more content...
After talking about how anxiety can keep you from accomplishing life goals and how its a big health issue, here are the different types of anxiety.
Some people can say all they have is anxiety but they all dont have the same disorder. There are many different types you can have. There is
generalized anxiety, phobias, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive, and panic disorder.
Anxiety – part of the body's natural reaction to stress – can even be helpful at times, making you more alert and ready for action. But anxiety disorders
differ from normal feelings of anxiousness. When feelings of fear or nervousness become excessive, difficult to control, or interfere with daily life, it's
called an anxiety disorder. (www.everydayhealth.com) . This evidence relates to the types of anxiety because it is telling how anxiety can make you
feel and act.
Some people may say that anxiety isn't the main cause of people not wanting to accomplish things or why they have bad health issues. They say it
could also be depression or how they are living their life outside of the public. That may be the cause but I personally have an anxiety disorder and it
is keeping me from doing thing I always talk about doing but of course I never end up doing it because of my disorder. It causes problems with your
mind and body

Argumentative Essay:
"Violent video games directly correlate to violence in schools"
Do violence video games actually affect children? What is the correlation between virtual games and violence at school? Most of the nowadays teenage
activities and spending free–time resolves around technology. Not all the games are violent, but they all becoming more realistic. Some of the
games are designed to learn something, some games develop abilities of fast reading, fast typing, driving a car, building from small farms to big
civilizations, some promote to fight with enemies, rob banks or even kill people. I have also played several video games, from collecting cure flowers
to driving crazy and killing people. Main consumers of video...show more content...
Psychologists of Iowa State University have conducted a study, where the study shows that "brief exposure to violent video games can cause a
reduction in normal physiological reactivity to images of real violence." One of the researches Dr. C. Anderson has said that children play very
"playful, fun, cartoonish forms of violence" and what is important to know is that, most of the violent games do not show what consequences can it
lead to when kids while playing kill an animal, beat and kill people, use and abuse of alcohol or drugs, disrespect the law. Gentile & Anderson (2003)
state that playing video games may increase aggressive behavior because violent acts are continually repeated throughout the video game. This process
of repeating in huge amounts is considered as an effective teaching method. (Add)

Argumentative Essay: Is Psychology A Science?
There has been an ongoing debate on whether psychology is indeed scientific, although recent, psychology is now considered a science. This is because
it uses scientific methodology in researching, devising treatments and measuring the outcomes. These methods include collecting and analysing data
and concluding their findings in order to identify whether the research or treatment adequality solves the problem. Scientific studies must be replicable,
this means the if repeated exactly the same, the results should produce an identical outcome. Replicability can be increased by ruling out any
alternatives that may not have originally been thought of. Objectivity in science is the idea that scientist, in an attempt to get the best results, must first

Argumentative Essay On Mental Health
Mental health is treated much more different than many physical diseases and in the words of the previous First Lady, Michelle Obama, "When it
comes to mental health conditions, we often treat them differently from other diseases like cancer, diabetes or asthma. Whether an illness affects your
heart, your leg or your brain, it's still an illness, and there should be no distinction."
Mental health conditions are highly stigmatized even in spite that they are extremely common. The amount of people who have a mental health
condition is over Forty million and more than the populations of New York and Florida combined ("The State of Mental Health in America."). In fact,
in 2014 about one in five American adults experienced a mental health issue, one in ten young people experienced a period of major depression, one in
twenty–five Americans lived with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression ("Mental Health Myths and
Facts").
Examples of estimated amounts of the American population, One in five (or 43.8 million) adults experience mental illness in a given year, one in
twenty–five (or 10 million) adults experience a serious mental illness, one in a hundred (or 2.4 million) live with schizophrenia, 2.6% (or 6.1 million)
of Americans have bipolar disorder, 6.9% (or 16 million) suffer from severe depression, 18.1% (or 42 million) live with an anxiety disorder. (Bach,
Natasha).
Many people with mental illness believe they are

Argumentative Essay On Low Self Esteem
My friends were gaudy, flamboyant and vivacious as ever when I was a young girl, contrary to me and my painfully shy personality. I was content
with this, but my mother always wanted me to fit in and to gain more confidence. Though I knew I would eventually evolve, it never felt right for
me to try to be someone i was not. I wanted to change or evolve on my own terms rather than from pressure from my friends or my mother. I knew
then, just as I know now, that changing myself was not going to be fun or easy and that faking interest in things I was not interested in would prove
fruitless. If this took so much effort and even some pain, then there was no point in trying. As I saw it then, the end goal would land me further away
than I had started.
Teenage girls who feel constant pressure from peers and even adults to be perfect have very low self esteems. Three–fourths of girls with low
self–esteem admitted to disordered eating, bullying, smoking or drinking (Low Self–Esteem). If these girls did not feel this pressure to be "perfect" or
to be ideal, then their self esteems might not be so low and self harm rates would quickly sink. One way to eliminate pressure would be to allow
them to express themselves, or not to express themselves. Another way to eliminate societal pressure would be to allow them to be their authentic
selves instead of pushing them to be different or to fit in. According to Peter Burke, a renowned psychologist and professor of sociology and

Thesis Statement For Mental Health
Expository Method Used:
The Expository Method used for the topic to sentence outline is 'Analysis by Division.' This method breaks down the main idea into smaller parts that
work together to make one central point. Additionally, the 'Analysis by Division' method is useful for structuring the topic sentences for writing the

Topic: Mental health is an increasingly vital part of general wellness in today's fast–paced world.
(Narrowed Topic): Characteristics of a mentally healthy individual.

wellness.

Equally important to the characteristics of a mentally healthy individual, in today's fast–paced world, is the psychological health of the brain, the
genetic, biological and environmental factors that play an integral role in general wellness.
Many prominent theorists have argued that perceptions of the self, the world, and the future are essential for mental health. Yet much research
evidence suggests that overly positive self–evaluations, exaggerated perceptions of control or mastery, and unrealistic optimism are characteristics of
normal human thought. Moreover, these illusions seem to promote other criteria of mental health, including, the ability to care about others, be happy
or contented, and to engage in productive and creative work. (Taylor & Brown 1988,

Depression Argumentative Essay
Is depression a subject that people typically tend to brush aside? Rather than facing away from a serious issue that people suffer from in their daily
lives, we should discuss the methods to help people with their struggle from depression. A common method to treat depression is the use of
antidepressants. But are they effective? Do they cause more harm and danger than aid? Are there other methods that can provide greater improvement
rather than a pill? Instead of using antidepressants there are other alternatives such as placebos and types of therapy that can be just as, or more effective
than the use of prescription antidepressants.
There are a multitude of different types of therapy available...show more content...
For some individuals who suffer from depression, they may feel as if they are flawed or weak; that person may feel shameful for seeking treatment.
To some, there is a stigma with mental illnesses and the call for help that can create a negative connotation. For most people who undergo depression
or any other kind of mental illness, they don't want to be feel as if they are too weak to reach for help. Therapy may not be the best option for some
individuals due to their financial stability and whether or not they have insurance to help with lower the cost. The cost of therapy differs from therapist
to therapist; for most, the average rate is typically $75–$100 per session. (Marla B. Cohen, PsyD, How Much Does Therapy Cost?) The cost all
depends on the therapist, location, and the going rate for therapy in that area. Time management can also be a reason why therapy wouldn't be the
best choice for some. In order for someone to seek treatment and successfully overcome their depression, therapy would need be scheduled
consistently to have an effect on the person. If someone were busy with work or school and cannot fit in therapy into their schedule, it wouldn't be
helpful to their progress of mending their depression. Therapy takes dedication and a flexible time management. For some, taking a pill once a day
can be seen as the easier or best option for them instead of attending

The Pros And Cons Of Psychological Egoism
In this paper I will be arguing that humans can indeed commit unselfish act and that the claim of psychological egoism are false. Psychological egoism
is the theory that states that humans actions are never unselfish and are only and always done for personal gain. This can be slightly difficult to argue
because most people have grown accustomed to seeing certain good deeds as unselfish. Without further analysing human actions, it is easy to label
kind human acts as unselfish. It is understandable. Things like giving money for the poor for example. We see someone giving change to a homeless
person on the sidewalk and carries on with his or her day. Things like that do not require muchthought as to if it is unselfish or not because we see one
person giving another something of value so we quickly say its unselfish. The public view of things has a strong influence on how we label the two but
for this the argument will go deeper than just public thinking to see what exactly proves what is unselfish or not. Rachels brings up the two strong
arguments that support psychological egoism which are that humans always do what they want to do and that humans do what makes them feel good.
Giving a homeless person on the street money can indeed make you feel good but that action would have to be important enough for the person to even
concern about it that emotionally. Most people today do a lot of actions without putting much thought into if it is something they did not necessarily
wanted to do but did anyway. The argument of psychological egoism does not apply for humans that feel their self interest do not contribute to minor or
major actions.
Continuing on with the example of giving change, the action on a wider scale is not really an action people continuously think about or show a lot
of interest in doing. This action does not really come to mind unless a person sees a homeless and knows they have extra change to give. The giver
would then search his or herself to see what loose change he has to offer. The key phrase being "loose change". Not many people want to give out
their own money, they would rather give the scraps, the change we get from buying chips at a gas station. The loose change is not seen as important

Argumentative Essay On Mental Illness
A mental illness is commonly known as any disorder that affects the mood, behavior, and overall mindset of an individual. Often, these effects can be
almost invisible to the person, or they can take up the person's whole life. Distractions, compulsions, fears, and whatever else keeps the individual's
mind racing can take up to a lifetime to cope with, and may not ever heal with treatment (as mental illness cannot be cured). Mental illness can also be a
distortion to the mind, making the mind believe something, or someone that is not real is present to the person with the distortion. This leads to the
other side of mental illness that entertainment portrays– yellow padded rooms, belted straitjackets and muzzles, and numerous amounts of screaming.
Mental illnesses are not all like these portrayals, but there are indeed mental institutions in the United Stated and around the world that remain very
active. Psychiatric hospitals are a brighter, more common term for these places. Their main purpose of them is to house people who have been
diagnosed with mental illness and are not fit at that moment to be left by themselves or with others around them. They would stay there, see their
own counselors, and receive plans based on their inpatient behavior. Usually, many are released after a month or two, and seldom stay forever.
However, it is after their discharge when they are in trouble. They are back in the world, but there is one problem: everyone surrounding them in their
lives

Essay on Psychologists
Psychology is the study of human behavior, how we think, feel and act. Psychologists study both normal and abnormal behavior to understand it.
Psychologists also try to use what we learn from that study to help people change aspects of their behavior that they want to change. Areas of
psychology are clinical, industrial, and developmental. Careers in Psychology offer varied opportunities.
Employment opportunities for capable psychologists are expected to be slightly better than average over the next several years. However, if you're
interested in a career in Psychology, you should know that the training program to become a psychologist is a long one. There is also stiff competition
for places in graduate training programs in Psychology....show more content...

emotional disorder. Because of the growing body of scientific knowledge about the role of psychological factors in physical health and disease,

Argumentative Essay On Stress And Depression
It's so common for people to conflate stress and anxiety that the two terms are often considered synonyms for one another. Even so, experts say that
these are actually not the same thing, and the differences are, perhaps, best enumerated in the panel discussion held at the Enloe Facebook Live event
hosted Thursday, "Keep Holiday Stress at Bay." Health professionals unpacked the differences betweenanxiety, stress and depression. Additionally,
new studies suggest that stress is able to reprogram cells and that certain kinds of anxiety can be born of genetic predisposition.
Debbie Strukan, an Enloe health professional and nurse manager, hosted a 45–minute talk with Patty Principi, an occupational therapist and also an
Enloe health professional. "There's a difference between [anxiety, stress and depression] and we'll break that down in this event," Strukan explained in
advance of the event when talking about the discussion topic. Enloe's coordinator of communications and media, Christina Chavira spoke to the fact
that this kind of misunderstanding regarding mental health can be remedied with increased awareness, which is what the live event was all about.
"Mental health is among the top three health issues for Butte County, according to feedback we gather from the community, publicly available data and
inpatient hospital data. Countywide, substance abuse and mental health are a top area of focus. The Facebook live event is one helpful tool in this area

Persuasive Essay About Psychology
Imagine that a friend of yours heard that you were taking a psychology class. Your friend asks you. "Why are you wasting your time with that class?
I never took a psych class but it seems like a waste of time. It seems like other fields are more important." Write a short dialogue where you either
agree or disagree with your friend about the importance of psychology. In your dialogue, include at least two pieces of evidence that support your
argument. Friend: I heard you are taking a psychology class.
Me: Yeah! Why?
Friend: Why are you wasting your time with that class? I never took a psych class but it seems like a waste of time. It seems like other fields are more
important.
Me: You can think what you wish, but the psychology field has many different branches that are beneficial to society. In psychology, we have learned
many different tools that could be used in the real world.
Friend: Like what?
Me: First, psychology has many different roots and main schools of thought. A few of them are behaviorism, cognitive, humanistic, and neuroscience.
Friend: Well, how does that make psychology more important than other fields?
Me: The main schools of thought look into many different aspects of the brain, behavior and other things of that nature. I think that it is very helpful to
understand and know how people function, think, and act, especially because we all have to live together.
Friend: Okay. I see where you're coming from but I am not sure I can fully agree with you

Argumentative Essay On Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety disorders are some of the most prominent mental disorders that people face. Anyone can have them, young or old. These disorders can be
extremely debilitating and exhausting for a person to live with. Every little thing they do could evoke the symptoms of their anxiety disorders.
Everyday these various symptoms must be overcome for them to enjoy their daily activities. Throughout the world there are many people who suffer
from anxiety disorders, a few of the most common ones are Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder also known as (GAD) is a typical anxiety disorder that involves nervousness, tension, and chronic worrying. With
chronic worrying every aspect of life is affected. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is different from normal worrying, because the worrying involved is
intrusive, disruptive, persistent, and excessive. Melinda Smith, M.A., has her Master's Degree in psychology; she has fifteen years of experience as
a health writer and editor, and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D., who was a psychologist and the cofounder of the website helpguide.org describe GAD clearly in
their article, "Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)." Their article states, "Unlike a phobia, where your fear is connected to a specific thing or
situation, the anxiety of generalized anxiety disorder is diffused–a general feeling of dread or unease that colors your whole life" (Smith, Segal). This
statement describes

Argumentative Essay On Depression
"Depression is the inability to construct a future." When a person is struggling through a dark time in their life they are unable to look positively
towards the future. This may affect anyone close to them and anyone who is planning a future with them. The theme is evident by the history of
depression, the signs, symptoms and the treatments available and the struggles depression creates in the individual's daily life. The earliest
discovery of Depression came in the second millennium B.C. They first called this illness melancholia and it first appeared in the writings of
Mesopotamian. Depression in this time was that people were possessed with demons and a priest had to attend to them to try and rid of the
demons causing this illness. They believed depression was a spiritual illness not a physical one. Many different doctors had ways they treated
people with this mental illness. Roman and Greek doctors believed this was a psychological and a biological illness. They treated depression with
gymnastics, massage, special diets, music and baths one kind of bath was a mix of poppy extract and donkeys milk to alleviate symptoms. The
Greek physicians were called Hippocrates and they said that if you had melancholia you had to much black bile in your spleen. They used
bloodletting which removed blood from the body, bathing, exercise, and dieting to treat melancholia. As the years went on people believed that the
mental illness was inherited and the people with these mental illnesses ended up homeless or in an institute. The theories that were established from
the past were very helpful to study which treatments would work best for people today. Depression is a complex disorder which involves many
systems of the body. It disrupts sleep, changes your appetite and causes weight loss or weight gain. Everyone experiences a sad time in their lives
and has no positive outlook at the future. This does not portray personal weakness but it also can not be something that can be wished away. Studies
have shown that the best way for people with depression to get help is cognitive behavioral therapy which studies problematic thought patterns without
the use of medicine. Depression occurs more in women than in men because of

Argumentative Essay On Drug Abuse
Malinda Lee, a college junior who is currently attending Metropolitan State University in Saint Paul is studying about European American
Adolescent and Drug Use. Confused about why there are so many European American Adolescents in recovery from drug use than in schools.
Should we blame the kids or the parents? To answer my question, if the parents are to blame or the child is. I believe that it is neither faults because
parents you can only teach them so much and it is up to them whether or not they should listen and follow through. With adolescents, they're going to
go through a stage where they want to start experimenting with things. I'd say let them try it and make the mistake but you tell them that if they want
to experiment things like drugs and alcohol, make sure they do it in the house with your supervision. I know this sounds wrong but how are you
going to stop someone who's as curious as you? Limit them to what they can experiment. For example, a small sip of alcohol or letting them smoke a
cigarette. The first time doing something, nobody is going to like it. After that, you tell them the bad things that can happened to them if they continue
to do it. There's been many times where the child would try something, start liking it and pick up the bad habits. I would take them to a close relative
or someone who is currently recovering and show them what will happened to them if they continue this. You don't want to treat your child as a friend,
but you also don't

Argumentative Essay On Positivity
Everyone has experiences with that one person who drags you down and eventually rubs off their negative perspectives and attitudes on you. When you
come home, your parents have noticed the way you are talking to them has changed, not for the good. In all age groups, negativity impacts your physical
health and will decrease your lifespan; therefore, we need to take steps to destress with positivity. Creating a more positive atmosphere starts with
ridding of a negative bias, broadening your perspectives of the world, and building yourself up.
Speaking negative words and putting off negative attitudes creates stress, which is harmful to your overall health. According to a study done in
February 2017, University of Minnesota reports negativity can create chronic stress, which upsets the body's hormone balance, depletes the brain
chemicals required for happiness, and damages the immune system. Simply Psychology states in 2010, when we are stressed, the immune system's
ability to fight off antigens is reduced, explaining why we are more susceptible to infections or illnesses. Stress can also be linked to unhealthy side
effects like headaches or ulcers. Negativity will influence your life in more ways then you will recognize and your overall health could suffer from
something like your attitude, thoughts, or feelings. Many people suffer from the side effects of stress and choose unhealthy coping methods. They will
resort to drinking or smoking to rid of their negative feelings

  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Anxiety "Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy." (www.healthy place.com) Many people have trouble accomplishing what they want to do in life because of health issues. A main health issue people suffer from is anxiety. There are different types of anxiety disorders you can have. Each one of them hold you back from doing what you want to succeed in life and may even cause you to make bad choices. Anxiety is losing yourself from reality and being disconnected from the present moment, other people, and yourself. It can keep you from doing things you want to accomplish in life. Achieving your goals is tough enough, but if you suffer from anxiety it becomes even more difficult. I was spending every day worried about how...show more content... After talking about how anxiety can keep you from accomplishing life goals and how its a big health issue, here are the different types of anxiety. Some people can say all they have is anxiety but they all dont have the same disorder. There are many different types you can have. There is generalized anxiety, phobias, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive, and panic disorder. Anxiety – part of the body's natural reaction to stress – can even be helpful at times, making you more alert and ready for action. But anxiety disorders differ from normal feelings of anxiousness. When feelings of fear or nervousness become excessive, difficult to control, or interfere with daily life, it's called an anxiety disorder. (www.everydayhealth.com) . This evidence relates to the types of anxiety because it is telling how anxiety can make you feel and act. Some people may say that anxiety isn't the main cause of people not wanting to accomplish things or why they have bad health issues. They say it could also be depression or how they are living their life outside of the public. That may be the cause but I personally have an anxiety disorder and it is keeping me from doing thing I always talk about doing but of course I never end up doing it because of my disorder. It causes problems with your mind and body Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Criminal Psychology Argumentative Essay: "Violent video games directly correlate to violence in schools" Do violence video games actually affect children? What is the correlation between virtual games and violence at school? Most of the nowadays teenage activities and spending free–time resolves around technology. Not all the games are violent, but they all becoming more realistic. Some of the games are designed to learn something, some games develop abilities of fast reading, fast typing, driving a car, building from small farms to big civilizations, some promote to fight with enemies, rob banks or even kill people. I have also played several video games, from collecting cure flowers to driving crazy and killing people. Main consumers of video...show more content... Psychologists of Iowa State University have conducted a study, where the study shows that "brief exposure to violent video games can cause a reduction in normal physiological reactivity to images of real violence." One of the researches Dr. C. Anderson has said that children play very "playful, fun, cartoonish forms of violence" and what is important to know is that, most of the violent games do not show what consequences can it lead to when kids while playing kill an animal, beat and kill people, use and abuse of alcohol or drugs, disrespect the law. Gentile & Anderson (2003) state that playing video games may increase aggressive behavior because violent acts are continually repeated throughout the video game. This process of repeating in huge amounts is considered as an effective teaching method. • 5. Argumentative Essay: Is Psychology A Science? There has been an ongoing debate on whether psychology is indeed scientific, although recent, psychology is now considered a science. This is because it uses scientific methodology in researching, devising treatments and measuring the outcomes. These methods include collecting and analysing data and concluding their findings in order to identify whether the research or treatment adequality solves the problem. Scientific studies must be replicable, this means the if repeated exactly the same, the results should produce an identical outcome. Replicability can be increased by ruling out any alternatives that may not have originally been thought of. Objectivity in science is the idea that scientist, in an attempt to get the best results, must first Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Argumentative Essay On Mental Health Mental health is treated much more different than many physical diseases and in the words of the previous First Lady, Michelle Obama, "When it comes to mental health conditions, we often treat them differently from other diseases like cancer, diabetes or asthma. Whether an illness affects your heart, your leg or your brain, it's still an illness, and there should be no distinction." Mental health conditions are highly stigmatized even in spite that they are extremely common. The amount of people who have a mental health condition is over Forty million and more than the populations of New York and Florida combined ("The State of Mental Health in America."). In fact, in 2014 about one in five American adults experienced a mental health issue, one in ten young people experienced a period of major depression, one in twenty–five Americans lived with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression ("Mental Health Myths and Facts"). Examples of estimated amounts of the American population, One in five (or 43.8 million) adults experience mental illness in a given year, one in twenty–five (or 10 million) adults experience a serious mental illness, one in a hundred (or 2.4 million) live with schizophrenia, 2.6% (or 6.1 million) of Americans have bipolar disorder, 6.9% (or 16 million) suffer from severe depression, 18.1% (or 42 million) live with an anxiety disorder. • 7. Argumentative Essay On Low Self Esteem My friends were gaudy, flamboyant and vivacious as ever when I was a young girl, contrary to me and my painfully shy personality. I was content with this, but my mother always wanted me to fit in and to gain more confidence. Though I knew I would eventually evolve, it never felt right for me to try to be someone i was not. I wanted to change or evolve on my own terms rather than from pressure from my friends or my mother. I knew then, just as I know now, that changing myself was not going to be fun or easy and that faking interest in things I was not interested in would prove fruitless. If this took so much effort and even some pain, then there was no point in trying. As I saw it then, the end goal would land me further away than I had started. Teenage girls who feel constant pressure from peers and even adults to be perfect have very low self esteems. Three–fourths of girls with low self–esteem admitted to disordered eating, bullying, smoking or drinking (Low Self–Esteem). If these girls did not feel this pressure to be "perfect" or to be ideal, then their self esteems might not be so low and self harm rates would quickly sink. One way to eliminate pressure would be to allow them to express themselves, or not to express themselves. Another way to eliminate societal pressure would be to allow them to be their authentic selves instead of pushing them to be different or to fit in. According to Peter Burke, a renowned psychologist and professor of sociology and Co–Director Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This method breaks down the main idea into smaller parts that work together to make one central point. Additionally, the 'Analysis by Division' method is useful for structuring the topic sentences for writing the essay. Topic to Sentence Outline Topic: Mental health is an increasingly vital part of general wellness in today's fast–paced world. (Narrowed Topic): Characteristics of a mentally healthy individual. Equally important to the characteristics of a mentally healthy individual, in today's fast–paced world, is the psychological health of the brain, the genetic, biological and environmental factors that play an integral role in general wellness. Many prominent theorists have argued that perceptions of the self, the world, and the future are essential for mental health. Yet much research evidence suggests that overly positive self–evaluations, exaggerated perceptions of control or mastery, and unrealistic optimism are characteristics of normal human thought. Moreover, these illusions seem to promote other criteria of mental health, including, the ability to care about others, be happy or contented, and to engage in productive and creative work. • 9. Depression Argumentative Essay Is depression a subject that people typically tend to brush aside? Rather than facing away from a serious issue that people suffer from in their daily lives, we should discuss the methods to help people with their struggle from depression. A common method to treat depression is the use of antidepressants. But are they effective? Do they cause more harm and danger than aid? Are there other methods that can provide greater improvement rather than a pill? Instead of using antidepressants there are other alternatives such as placebos and types of therapy that can be just as, or more effective than the use of prescription antidepressants. There are a multitude of different types of therapy available...show more content... For some individuals who suffer from depression, they may feel as if they are flawed or weak; that person may feel shameful for seeking treatment. To some, there is a stigma with mental illnesses and the call for help that can create a negative connotation. For most people who undergo depression or any other kind of mental illness, they don't want to be feel as if they are too weak to reach for help. Therapy may not be the best option for some individuals due to their financial stability and whether or not they have insurance to help with lower the cost. The cost of therapy differs from therapist to therapist; for most, the average rate is typically $75–$100 per session. (Marla B. Cohen, PsyD, How Much Does Therapy Cost?) The cost all depends on the therapist, location, and the going rate for therapy in that area. Time management can also be a reason why therapy wouldn't be the best choice for some. In order for someone to seek treatment and successfully overcome their depression, therapy would need be scheduled consistently to have an effect on the person. If someone were busy with work or school and cannot fit in therapy into their schedule, it wouldn't be helpful to their progress of mending their depression. Therapy takes dedication and a flexible time management. For some, taking a pill once a day can be seen as the easier or best option for them instead of attending Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Pros And Cons Of Psychological Egoism In this paper I will be arguing that humans can indeed commit unselfish act and that the claim of psychological egoism are false. Psychological egoism is the theory that states that humans actions are never unselfish and are only and always done for personal gain. This can be slightly difficult to argue because most people have grown accustomed to seeing certain good deeds as unselfish. Without further analysing human actions, it is easy to label kind human acts as unselfish. It is understandable. Things like giving money for the poor for example. We see someone giving change to a homeless person on the sidewalk and carries on with his or her day. Things like that do not require muchthought as to if it is unselfish or not because we see one person giving another something of value so we quickly say its unselfish. The public view of things has a strong influence on how we label the two but for this the argument will go deeper than just public thinking to see what exactly proves what is unselfish or not. Rachels brings up the two strong arguments that support psychological egoism which are that humans always do what they want to do and that humans do what makes them feel good. Giving a homeless person on the street money can indeed make you feel good but that action would have to be important enough for the person to even concern about it that emotionally. Most people today do a lot of actions without putting much thought into if it is something they did not necessarily wanted to do but did anyway. The argument of psychological egoism does not apply for humans that feel their self interest do not contribute to minor or major actions. Continuing on with the example of giving change, the action on a wider scale is not really an action people continuously think about or show a lot of interest in doing. This action does not really come to mind unless a person sees a homeless and knows they have extra change to give. The giver would then search his or herself to see what loose change he has to offer. The key phrase being "loose change". Not many people want to give out their own money, they would rather give the scraps, the change we get from buying chips at a gas station. The loose change is not seen as important Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Argumentative Essay On Mental Illness A mental illness is commonly known as any disorder that affects the mood, behavior, and overall mindset of an individual. Often, these effects can be almost invisible to the person, or they can take up the person's whole life. Distractions, compulsions, fears, and whatever else keeps the individual's mind racing can take up to a lifetime to cope with, and may not ever heal with treatment (as mental illness cannot be cured). Mental illness can also be a distortion to the mind, making the mind believe something, or someone that is not real is present to the person with the distortion. This leads to the other side of mental illness that entertainment portrays– yellow padded rooms, belted straitjackets and muzzles, and numerous amounts of screaming. Mental illnesses are not all like these portrayals, but there are indeed mental institutions in the United Stated and around the world that remain very active. Psychiatric hospitals are a brighter, more common term for these places. Their main purpose of them is to house people who have been diagnosed with mental illness and are not fit at that moment to be left by themselves or with others around them. They would stay there, see their own counselors, and receive plans based on their inpatient behavior. Usually, many are released after a month or two, and seldom stay forever. However, it is after their discharge when they are in trouble. They are back in the world, but there is one problem: everyone surrounding them in their lives Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. Argumentative Essay On Stress And Depression It's so common for people to conflate stress and anxiety that the two terms are often considered synonyms for one another. Even so, experts say that these are actually not the same thing, and the differences are, perhaps, best enumerated in the panel discussion held at the Enloe Facebook Live event hosted Thursday, "Keep Holiday Stress at Bay." Health professionals unpacked the differences betweenanxiety, stress and depression. Additionally, new studies suggest that stress is able to reprogram cells and that certain kinds of anxiety can be born of genetic predisposition. Debbie Strukan, an Enloe health professional and nurse manager, hosted a 45–minute talk with Patty Principi, an occupational therapist and also an Enloe health professional. "There's a difference between [anxiety, stress and depression] and we'll break that down in this event," Strukan explained in advance of the event when talking about the discussion topic. Enloe's coordinator of communications and media, Christina Chavira spoke to the fact that this kind of misunderstanding regarding mental health can be remedied with increased awareness, which is what the live event was all about. "Mental health is among the top three health issues for Butte County, according to feedback we gather from the community, publicly available data and inpatient hospital data. Countywide, substance abuse and mental health are a top area of focus. The Facebook live event is one helpful tool in this area because it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Persuasive Essay About Psychology Imagine that a friend of yours heard that you were taking a psychology class. Your friend asks you. "Why are you wasting your time with that class? I never took a psych class but it seems like a waste of time. It seems like other fields are more important." Write a short dialogue where you either agree or disagree with your friend about the importance of psychology. In your dialogue, include at least two pieces of evidence that support your argument. Friend: I heard you are taking a psychology class. Me: Yeah! Why? Friend: Why are you wasting your time with that class? I never took a psych class but it seems like a waste of time. It seems like other fields are more important. Me: You can think what you wish, but the psychology field has many different branches that are beneficial to society. In psychology, we have learned many different tools that could be used in the real world. I think that it is very helpful to understand and know how people function, think, and act, especially because we all have to live together. Friend: Okay. • 15. Argumentative Essay On Anxiety Disorder Anxiety disorders are some of the most prominent mental disorders that people face. Anyone can have them, young or old. These disorders can be extremely debilitating and exhausting for a person to live with. Every little thing they do could evoke the symptoms of their anxiety disorders. Everyday these various symptoms must be overcome for them to enjoy their daily activities. Throughout the world there are many people who suffer from anxiety disorders, a few of the most common ones are Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder. Generalized Anxiety Disorder also known as (GAD) is a typical anxiety disorder that involves nervousness, tension, and chronic worrying. With chronic worrying every aspect of life is affected. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is different from normal worrying, because the worrying involved is intrusive, disruptive, persistent, and excessive. Melinda Smith, M.A., has her Master's Degree in psychology; she has fifteen years of experience as a health writer and editor, and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D., who was a psychologist and the cofounder of the website helpguide.org describe GAD clearly in their article, "Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)." • 17. Argumentative Essay On Depression "Depression is the inability to construct a future." When a person is struggling through a dark time in their life they are unable to look positively towards the future. This may affect anyone close to them and anyone who is planning a future with them. The theme is evident by the history of depression, the signs, symptoms and the treatments available and the struggles depression creates in the individual's daily life. The earliest discovery of Depression came in the second millennium B.C. They first called this illness melancholia and it first appeared in the writings of Mesopotamian. Depression in this time was that people were possessed with demons and a priest had to attend to them to try and rid of the demons causing this illness. They believed depression was a spiritual illness not a physical one. Many different doctors had ways they treated people with this mental illness. Roman and Greek doctors believed this was a psychological and a biological illness. They treated depression with gymnastics, massage, special diets, music and baths one kind of bath was a mix of poppy extract and donkeys milk to alleviate symptoms. The Greek physicians were called Hippocrates and they said that if you had melancholia you had to much black bile in your spleen. They used bloodletting which removed blood from the body, bathing, exercise, and dieting to treat melancholia. As the years went on people believed that the mental illness was inherited and the people with these mental illnesses ended up homeless or in an institute. The theories that were established from the past were very helpful to study which treatments would work best for people today. Depression is a complex disorder which involves many systems of the body. It disrupts sleep, changes your appetite and causes weight loss or weight gain. Everyone experiences a sad time in their lives and has no positive outlook at the future. This does not portray personal weakness but it also can not be something that can be wished away. Studies have shown that the best way for people with depression to get help is cognitive behavioral therapy which studies problematic thought patterns without the use of medicine.
