This document discusses different models for representing provenance information in bibliographic records: 1) In traditional MARC records and card catalogs, provenance information is represented in flat note fields (561) with an added entry (700) for the former owner to allow indexing. 2) The WEMI model reflects different relationships between publications and people involved, with provenance represented at the Item level. 3) Bibframe, the new proposed bibliographic framework, also represents provenance as part of custodialHistory, likely at the Item level similar to WEMI.
