Os pronomes possessivos possuem 2 funções:
1) Adjetiva - vêm antes de um substantivo:
   That is not my. These are my pens.
    (Aquele não é meu carro. Aquelas são minhas
  canetas.)
2) Substantiva - usados no lugar do substantivo:
    That pencil is not mine. Those books are mine.
   ( Aquele lápis não é meu. Aqueles livros são os
  meus. )
BobCheck: 1) Em inglês, os possessivos têm forma
  única para o masculino e o feminino, no singular e no
  plural, concordando com o possuidor,não com o que é
  possuído:
e.g.
Jessica and her father.
Jessica e seu pai ( pai dela )

2) Não usam artigo definido:
e.g.
My brother and his friends went to the show yesterday.
(O meu irmão e os seus amigos foram ao show ontem.)
