Used With Nouns

These pronouns always act as adjectives because they always modify nouns.

Example # 1:    This is my cookie.




Used Alone
mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs

When used alone, these pronouns can act as subjects, objects, and predicate adjectives.

Example # 1: Yours are the best cookies!

Example # 2: This cookie is mine.




TIPS/RULES:

   1) Pronouns do not have to be punctuated with apostrophes.

Incorrect:     it's, her's, our's, their's, your's

Correct:       its, hers, ours, theirs, yours
2) In addition, do not confuse a possessive pronoun with a contraction.
