Rethinking and Reshaping Broken Systems - New Profit Gathering of LeadersCode for America
At the 2015 New Profit Gathering of Leaders (#NPGathering15), Code for America Founder and Executive Director Jennifer Pahlka, Black Girls CODE Founder & Executive Director Kimberly Bryant, and Pigeonly CEO Frederick Hutson talked about the importance of rethinking and reshaping broken systems. Through the lens of technology, they discussed how problems that get solved have everything to do with who’s doing the solving: their experience, perspective, and insights into whom they’re solving problems for.
This is Jennifer Pahlka's deck from the talk. For more details about the event, visit: http://www.newprofit.org/npgathering15-reshaping-broken-systems-rethinking-who-is-in-the-lead/
We will work to acquire donations and fund development of key projects: Trusted News, Outcome-based Consensus, a Mobile civ.works platform and Virtual TownWorks.
The Social Festival: SFX Entertainment and the Platforming of EDM FestivalsJonathan Karpetz
In my presentation I will examine the resurrection of SFX Entertainment by founder Robert FX Sillerman (point him out on screen and Afrojack) and its rapid acquisition of EDM related festival companies which were packaged together with a suite of digital content creation and promotion companies into SFX Entertainment Inc.; A now publically traded company that debuted on the NASDAQ stock exchange in October 2013. I argue that SFX entertainment’s rapid acquisition and folding together of EDM festival organizations and content creators represents a significant evolution in music festival business practices in what I will describe as the “platforming of festivals” which is part of a broader phenomenon of “digital intermediation” which has seen rapid growth in both content hosting and distribution platforms like YouTube to creative crowdsourcing platforms like Talenthouse and Eyeka to many “sharing economy” upstarts, like Uber and Lyft.
After 4 years of researching, designing, developing and deploying solutions “in the wild” and completing his PhD in “Community Participation in Mobile Entertainment Services #CPiMES”, Mark now focuses his research around ‘gameful design’ solutions focused to enhance the user experience. Mark’s role as a Creative Technologist in the Media Innovation Studio, is to look at ways in which creative experiences, gameful design and technology can be used to generate data, encourage participation and educate. In his talk, Mark will review past projects released “in the wild” and present insights into ongoing work of relevance focusing on determining the role technology plays in inspiring social innovation.
