ZEWIPRO is an EU-funded project that aims to develop innovative low-environmental impact solutions for wine production. The project involves installing patented photo bioreactor technology in wineries to reduce and purify carbon dioxide emissions from fermentation. The captured CO2 is then reused to breed algae. Initial tests show one bioreactor can convert 90kg of CO2 into 45kg of algae in 2 weeks. Algae can be used to produce biodiesel, omega-3 supplements, or generate bioenergy. The project will exhibit at international exhibitions and distribute posters and brochures to communicate results.
