Michelangelo Buonarroti was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, and poet during the Renaissance. He was born in 1475 in Caprese, Italy to parents from a family of solid artisan stock. Some of Michelangelo's most famous creations include David, the ceiling and walls of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, and the Pietà. His artistic works and architectural designs, such as the Laurentian Library, greatly influenced Renaissance art and architecture and are still admired today. Michelangelo had several disciples and students throughout his career that learned from his innovative techniques and theories about ideal beauty.
