A detailed look at the elements of REMOURBAN: A sustainable urban regeneration model leveraging the convergence of energy, mobility and ICT to transform European cities into Smart Cities
Delivered by coordinator Miguel Angél Garcia, https://twitter.com/miggar85, November 2015
Sustainable town planning and mobility are important for urban development. Sustainable mobility through public transportation and non-motorized modes can improve quality of life by reducing traffic while supporting economic growth. Integrating land use and transportation planning along with stakeholder participation are keys to achieving sustainability goals. Past projects in Aveiro failed because they did not sufficiently consider urban planning, mobility issues, residents' needs, or involve all stakeholders. The future requires a shared vision and coordinated strategies to integrate sustainable urban planning and mobility.
The document discusses experiences with networking and innovation through various EU programs. It summarizes two projects: ELREN, a renewable energy network for rural SMEs across Europe, and Cammini d'Europa, promoting tourism along pilgrimage routes in Spain and Italy. Both projects demonstrated innovation through their partnership structures and activities. The document also outlines plans for future projects, emphasizing the importance of sustainable partnerships, medium-term perspectives, knowledge sharing and dissemination, and linking rural actors and networks.

- Cities are the main drivers of economic development and innovation but also pose challenges to sustainable development if not properly managed, as they are major sources of pollution and CO2 emissions.
- The EU Cohesion Policy supports urban development and aims to address issues facing deprived urban neighborhoods through programs like URBACT, which fosters transnational exchange and cooperation among cities.
