IDEAS
The positive and negative sides of having a camera.
Two different sides of a story (with and without a camera).
One person’s life in black and white and someone’s life in colour

TITLE
‘I Am A Camera’
SYNOPSIS Indi lives her life in colour with the use of her camera
and Brandon lives his in black and white doing
ordinary tasks such as reading, cooking, studying,
drawing and they meet at the end. Indi turns
Brandon’s life in colour by seeing his excitement and
want of having a camera and they become friends.
RESEARCH
Research for this project began by looking on YouTube for some video
inspirations. It turns out that one of my friends is a videographer and is
interested in media and filming herself so I showed my group
something that she had worked on and it sparked the idea of a black
and white vs colour theme for the video. We looked in some books in
the library and had some inspiration from horror films with the aspect
or black and white vs colour a constant trend or seen part of each of
the movies and we decided to introduce a camera within the scene as
well and come up with an idea relating to that, in order to bring two
characters together as well as overcoming ideas such as stereotyping,
gender, representation and symbolisms within the project.

STORYBOARD
‘ A storyboard is the blueprint for a film…it provides a list of all the information you need to
include throughout the film including sound, music, images and the effect that these have
when juxtaposed with one another…In drawing the storyboard you do not necessarily need
to be a good draughtsman; it is enough to show the image clearly and precisely to the
extent that you could give the storyboards to someone else and they could go ahead and
make your film’ (Evans, 2006: 138).

PRODUCTION STILLS
Publicity stills from productions are a useful way of ‘advertising’ your work. It is always recommended that
you make a record of your own work-in-progress throughout a media project. If you plan to disseminate
your work either as part of a blog, or to enter into a film festival, it is a good idea to capture a selection of
publicity stills during production. Stacey Parks recommends, for example, that you capture images of the
cast reenacting key moments from the production, of the cast and crew at work behind the scenes, and also
yourselves producing (Parks, 2007: 59 – 60).

Approaches to Media Practice Production Log

  • 2. PROJECT GROUP GROUP PHOTO & LOGO: Create an identity for your project group. Discuss an idea for a group name. Design a logo and take a photograph of the group that reflects the group’s name and identity. (You may wish to combine the two).

  • 4. IDEAS The positive and negative sides of having a camera. Two different sides of a story (with and without a camera). One person’s life in black and white and someone’s life in colour Symbolic story with handcuffs to show that you’re trapped without a camera. Silent story with dialogue at the end with someone saying ‘Thank you’. Memories inside people’s heads. Social media influence vs having a real life camera. Looking into the scenes of photographs that have already been taken.
  • 5. SYNOPSIS & WORKING TITLE IDEA – Which idea/s from the Ideas Bank have you chosen to use? 2 characters; one with a camera and one without a camera TITLE/WORKING TITLE ‘I Am A Camera’ SYNOPSIS Indi lives her life in colour with the use of her camera and Brandon lives his in black and white doing ordinary tasks such as reading, cooking, studying, drawing and they meet at the end. Indi turns Brandon’s life in colour by seeing his excitement and want of having a camera and they become friends.
  • 6. RESEARCH Research for this project began by looking on YouTube for some video inspirations. It turns out that one of my friends is a videographer and is interested in media and filming herself so I showed my group something that she had worked on and it sparked the idea of a black and white vs colour theme for the video. We looked in some books in the library and had some inspiration from horror films with the aspect or black and white vs colour a constant trend or seen part of each of the movies and we decided to introduce a camera within the scene as well and come up with an idea relating to that, in order to bring two characters together as well as overcoming ideas such as stereotyping, gender, representation and symbolisms within the project. STORYBOARD ‘ A storyboard is the blueprint for a film…it provides a list of all the information you need to include throughout the film including sound, music, images and the effect that these have when juxtaposed with one another…In drawing the storyboard you do not necessarily need to be a good draughtsman; it is enough to show the image clearly and precisely to the extent that you could give the storyboards to someone else and they could go ahead and make your film’ (Evans, 2006: 138). Alternatively, you may use photographs to illustrate your Storyboard instead of sketching it.
  • 8. PRODUCTION STILLS Publicity stills from productions are a useful way of ‘advertising’ your work. It is always recommended that you make a record of your own work-in-progress throughout a media project. If you plan to disseminate your work either as part of a blog, or to enter into a film festival, it is a good idea to capture a selection of publicity stills during production. Stacey Parks recommends, for example, that you capture images of the cast reenacting key moments from the production, of the cast and crew at work behind the scenes, and also yourselves producing (Parks, 2007: 59 – 60).
