Describing a Process Essay
 An essay can describe a process, procedure, or sequence of events.
 In this type of essay, a topic is divided into steps, and each step is
discussed in a separate body paragraph.
 All essays have three main parts: an introduction paragraph, a
number of body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.
An Introduction Paragraph
 In a process essay, the introduction paragraph starts with an
opening hook to get the reader interested in the topic.
 The introductory paragraph explains the purpose of writing and
includes the thesis statement.
 The thesis statement describes the process the essay will discuss.
 The thesis statement will also indicate the number of steps involved
or provide the name of the stages involved. This is the main idea
of the essay.
Body Paragraphs
 In the body of the process essay, the writer needs to divide the
thesis statement into a number of individual steps or stages that
support and provide evidence for the thesis.
 The writer should try to put the steps / procedures into order (e.g.
most to least important, general to specific, or simple to complex).
 Use chronological transition signals to link sentences within
paragraphs and between paragraphs.
