The Chesapeake Bay watershed spans 64,000 square miles across six states and Washington D.C., draining into the Chesapeake Bay. Over 17 million people live in the watershed, and human activities like pollution affect the Bay's ecosystem. The Susquehanna River is the largest contributor to the Chesapeake Bay, and flows through the Susquehanna watershed which includes the Oneonta area. The Chesapeake Bay ecosystem consists of the Bay itself and its rivers, streams, and all the plants and animals that depend on each other within the ecosystem.
