What are probiotics?

The word probiotic is derived from the
greek word ‘pro’ and ‘biotic’ which
means “for life”.
Definition:- “Live microorganisms,
which when administered in adequate
amounts, confer beneficial effects on
the health of the host.”

What is the need of probiotics?

PREBIOTICS
Prebiotics are non-digestible foods that
make their way through our digestive
digestive system and help good
bacteria grow and flourish.
Sources- Unrefined wheat,barley,raw
oats,legumes and whole grains.

Probiotic strains currently used are –
Lactobacilli Species :-
 L.delbreuckii subspecies bulgaricus
 L.casei subspecies rhamnosus
 L.acidophilusLactobacilli
 L.plantarum
 L.brevis
 L.reuteri
PROBIOTIC STRAINS

Bifidobacterium species :-
 B.animalis subspecies lactis
 B.adolescentis
 B.longum
 B.bifidum
