PRINCIPLES OF 
PARENT EDUCATION
 PARENT EDUCATION and suppor t 
are essent ial components of chi ld 
wel fare services which take 
di fferent forms for di fferent parents 
and vary depending upon the 
parents needs. 
 The overarching goal of al l parent 
educat ion is to ensure the safety 
and wel lbeing of the chi ld.
1. All parent education programs must 
recognize and build on parent’s 
understanding of safety and risk 
related factors: All forms of parent 
education must incorporate the 
identification and recognition of caregiver 
behaviors, beliefs, values, and attitudes 
that positively shape and ensure the 
safety, healthy development, and stability 
of their children.
2. Every parent and family is unique: 
Every family has its own customs and 
values and therefore the educators must 
tell the needs of parents accordingly.
3. Parent education programs must 
recognize and build on parent’s 
strengths: All the parent education must 
be based on parent’s strength. The 
educators must identify the strength of 
individual parents and shape them in a 
right way so that the parents feel 
connected and supported.
4. All forms of parent education and the 
people who deliver them must be 
culturally competent, taking into 
account race, culture, gender and other 
identities: The educators must provide 
linguistic appropriate services so that the 
parents feel easy to understand also. The 
educators must focus on the cultural 
background gender and other basic 
identities.
5. Parent education programs must 
recognize that parents have different 
needs: The educators must be focus on 
cater different needs of different parents.
6.Parent education programs must build 
on parent’s common experience: In this 
the common experiences of other parents 
creates more impact because words of 
mouth plays a very important role in 
changing the mindset of people.
8.When the education occurs in a 
group format, parent educators 
must be trained in principles of 
group work and facilitation: When 
the educators teach in group they 
must know the principles of group 
work so that there is no hustle while 
dealing in a group.
7. Parent education programs must 
utilize defined models and promising 
practices and maintain clear 
objectives: The educators must be very 
clear and specific about their objective 
and these objectives should be based 
flexible enough to suit the target 
audience/parents.
9. parents must be involved in the 
development, facilitation and 
leadership of parent education 
programs: Parents should be equally 
involved in upliftment of parents education 
program, so that it fastens the speed of 
the process.
10. All parent education and support 
programs must be grounded in guiding 
parents to be self-reflective about how 
they are raising their children and how 
they can improve their parenting skills: 
These parent education must act like a 
guiding force for the parents so that they 
know how they are upbringing their kids 
and how they are enhancing their own 
skills for handling their own kids.

  • 2.  PARENT EDUCATION and suppor t are essent ial components of chi ld wel fare services which take di fferent forms for di fferent parents and vary depending upon the parents needs.  The overarching goal of al l parent educat ion is to ensure the safety and wel lbeing of the chi ld.
  • 3. 1. All parent education programs must recognize and build on parent’s understanding of safety and risk related factors: All forms of parent education must incorporate the identification and recognition of caregiver behaviors, beliefs, values, and attitudes that positively shape and ensure the safety, healthy development, and stability of their children.
  • 4. 2. Every parent and family is unique: Every family has its own customs and values and therefore the educators must tell the needs of parents accordingly.
  • 5. 3. Parent education programs must recognize and build on parent’s strengths: All the parent education must be based on parent’s strength. The educators must identify the strength of individual parents and shape them in a right way so that the parents feel connected and supported.
  • 6. 4. All forms of parent education and the people who deliver them must be culturally competent, taking into account race, culture, gender and other identities: The educators must provide linguistic appropriate services so that the parents feel easy to understand also. The educators must focus on the cultural background gender and other basic identities.
  • 7. 5. Parent education programs must recognize that parents have different needs: The educators must be focus on cater different needs of different parents.
  • 8. 6.Parent education programs must build on parent’s common experience: In this the common experiences of other parents creates more impact because words of mouth plays a very important role in changing the mindset of people.
  • 9. 8.When the education occurs in a group format, parent educators must be trained in principles of group work and facilitation: When the educators teach in group they must know the principles of group work so that there is no hustle while dealing in a group.
  • 10. 7. Parent education programs must utilize defined models and promising practices and maintain clear objectives: The educators must be very clear and specific about their objective and these objectives should be based flexible enough to suit the target audience/parents.
  • 11. 9. parents must be involved in the development, facilitation and leadership of parent education programs: Parents should be equally involved in upliftment of parents education program, so that it fastens the speed of the process.
  • 12. 10. All parent education and support programs must be grounded in guiding parents to be self-reflective about how they are raising their children and how they can improve their parenting skills: These parent education must act like a guiding force for the parents so that they know how they are upbringing their kids and how they are enhancing their own skills for handling their own kids.
