This document provides an overview of the third edition of the textbook "Principles of Distributed Database Systems" by M. Tamer Özsu and Patrick Valduriez. The book covers fundamental principles of distributed data management in the first part, and more advanced topics in the second part. Major changes from previous editions include expanded coverage of database integration, querying over multidatabase systems, data replication protocols, peer-to-peer data management, web data management, and emerging topics such as stream data management and cloud computing. Many colleagues assisted with reviewing and improving various chapters.
