2. Question 1
From question 1, it is evident
that 100% of answers watch Soap
Opera’s 1-2 times a week. This
informs me that Soap Opera’s are
not very popular to this sample
of answers meaning it is a ‘dying
genre’.
3. Question 2
This chart notifies me that
the majority of answers are
13-18 years old. This
question was asked to
analyse how answers differ
from age.
4. Question 3 This question informs me that
the most popular Soap Opera’s
are Hollyoaks and Eastenders.
The usual themes of these two
Soap Opera’s include alcohol,
drugs, violence and family
affairs. This notifies me that it
would be a good idea to
develop a Soap Opera trailer
that includes many of these
things. Emerdale and Waterloo
road are the least popular;
Emerdale is more suited to
older individuals and therefore
didn’t get much popularity in
my survey. On the other hand,
Waterloo road is more suited
to the younger generation and
therefore I am surpised it
didn’t get much popularity and
votes.
5. Question 4 Crime is the most associated
genre with Soap Opera’s,
which conveys to me that I
defiantly need to feature an
aspect of crime in my trailer.
Love and jealousy are also
particularly popular, which
suggests to me that I should
include parts of these two
topics. In my trailer, I wanted
to include a scene of alcohol
and drug use however I may
not do this anymore due to it
being the least popular topics
and therefore not retain the
audience.
6. Question 5 From this research, Soap Opera
storylines are considered
predictable. Sometimes Soap
Opera storylines are seen as
predictable however connoting
that the audience can be
surprised by the outcome of an
episode, leading to greater
satisfaction or disappointment.
I believe that making a very
mysterious trailer will give an
audience no reason to guess
about the outcome of my Soap
Opera and therefore will have a
greater enjoyment from
viewing the trailer.
7. Question 6
This question is vary varied
with it responses as some
would, wouldn’t and may
begin watching a Soap Opera
simply due to its trailer. This
informs me that some Soap
Operas are not as mysterious
and captivating as others,
denoting why some
individuals would not begin
watching the Soap Opera
after viewing the trailer. This
suggests that I need my
trailer to be as interesting
and exciting as possible to
get a good audience
retention.
8. Question 7
This chart denotes how
individuals believe the most
suited age range to Soap
Opera’s is 37-42. This suggests
how the most suited Soap
Opera viewer is most likely to
be a middle aged mum. From
this chart I can infer that my
trailer needs to be suitable
enough so that this type of
age range are able to
understand and follow the
line.
9. Question 8 This chart is important
because it clearly outline
show Soap Opera’s are
becoming less and less
popular over time, denoting
how the genre is dying. This
notifies me that trailers need
to be as gripping and
mysterious as possible to
retain the audiences attention
and keep them to continue
viewing the genre.

Question 9 notifies me that
individuals are most
commonly happy to watch
two Soap Opera’s
simultaneously. However,
33.33% of individuals couldn't
swap a Soap Opera for
another denoting that
however good the trailer is, it
may not sway a person over to
watch the show.
11. Question 10
From this question, which
allows individuals the
freedom to write their
opinion, answers range
from ‘storylines that play
on reality’ to as broad of
an answers of ‘drama’. This
informs me that I need to
include as aspect of reality
in my trailer in order to
make it popular. I assume
that individuals like trailers
which play on reality
because they are more
likely to connect with the
individual.
