Bert Granberg Mapping Presentation AGRC
Bert Granberg from the Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center (AGRC), presented an overview of the Utah Broadband Project and gave a demonstration of the Utah Broadband Map. He also showed the council AGRC’s newest population map which was released last week. The map was created by refining 2010 census data and removing portions of census blocks that are uninhabited. This map can be compared to data collected for the Utah Broadband Map to identify unserved and underserved areas of the state.

The World Wide Web Foundation was founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee to advance open data and transparency on the web. While some government data is available openly, like budgets, company registers, and spending, beneficial ownership information remains mostly closed. This lack of transparency enables corruption and hurts societies. The OpenOwnership initiative aims to address this by creating an open global standard and platform for registering beneficial ownership information to increase accountability. Currently, some countries like the UK and Ukraine have committed to integrating open beneficial ownership data, and the beta platform is available for testing. Stakeholders can get involved by supporting advocacy for open registers and providing feedback on the platform.
Elections in Serbia and Macedonia
- Elections were held in Macedonia in December 2016 following multiple postponements. The ruling VMRO-DPMNE party was accused of election fraud, corruption, and abuse of power to suppress the opposition SDSM party.
- VMRO-DPMNE narrowly won the election but did not have enough seats to form a government on its own. It refused to allow the constitutionally mandated transfer of power to a SDSM-led coalition for 4 months.
- In April 2017, protesters attacked the Macedonian parliament building following the election of a new SDSM-aligned speaker, deepening the political crisis. VMRO-DPMNE did not condemn the attack and questioned the legitimacy of the election results.
Oraclum Intelligence Systems
Oraclum Intelligence Systems is a UK-based company that uses social networks to predict elections and consumer behavior. They developed a unique forecasting method called the Bayesian Adjusted Social Network Survey that asks participants questions to gauge voter sentiment and accounts for social network biases. Decode Darfur

2017 Romanian protests - A legal and an open government perspective

This is a workshop about communication and collaboration. We will experience how we can analyze the reasons for resistance to change (exercise 1) and practice how to improve our conversation style and be more in control and effective in the way we communicate (exercise 2).
This session will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
Abstract:
Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
In the session you will experience how preparing and reflecting on your conversation can help you be more influential at work. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the people needed to achieve positive change. You will leave with a self-revised version of a difficult conversation and a practical model to use when you get back to work.

Media Regulation in Serbia REM (Regulatory Authority of Electronic Media) is in charge; According to the law, citizens are able to file complaints about the content in TV and radio programs they find offensive or harmful or the content that is breaching the Broadcasting Code Transparency of the process??? A need to include citizens in media regulation!
- 3. REM’s Official Website • There is a form for submission of complaints • However: • It is not possible to track complaints; • It is not possible to see submitted complaints; • There is no guideline for submission of complaints; • There is no relevant statistics. • Citizens’ complaints are often not accepted and considered as incomplete or irregular.
- 4. Internet Platform Publika Helping citizens to submit complains to REM more easily; To raise awareness of people about the current condition in media broadcasting; To raise the level of transparency in media regulation;
- 5. About Publika Need to register on the platform; Completion of submission form is automated and very easy for users; It is ensured that submitted complaints are correctly written! NO EXCUSES There is an archive of submitted complaints; Any response from REM is automatically published – everyone can see what is happening with complaints.

Help and statistics Help page is designed to assist users to put together the complaint and to better understand the complaint categories; Statistics page provides info on the number of complaints that are submitted to broadcasters over Publika platform; Possibility to easily search complaints archive by categories and broadcasters.
