Making proposals for a nursing project in the final year of B.Sc. Nursing. This presentation will provide the basic structure of different proposals for a specific problem statement.
2. PROBLEM STATEMENT
“A STUDY TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE REGARDING FIRST AID AMONG B.SC
NURSING FIRST YEAR STUDENT IN SIMS GROUP OF INSTITUTION,
MANGALDAS NAGAR, GUNTUR.”
3. INTRODUCTION
• “FIRST AID IS BETTER THAN LAST!”
• A person who gives treatment for the one who is suffering from a disease or if an accident , to
improve his condition is called an “AIDES” and the medical treatment given as aid is called
“FIRST AID”.
• Every human life is valuable and must be safeguarded Countries go to great lengths to protect
their citizen from natural disasters and other threats but millions of people die each year.
4. • First aid is what we term immediate medical assistance offered to any ill or injured person
irrespective of the severity of illness to save a person’s life till medical help or ambulance
arrives.
• It can accident happens in the workplace you cannot be a helpless witness, since simply
standing by can potentially worsens the situation. This is why its important to have at least a
basic knowledge of first aid.
5. NEED FOR THE STUDY
• The overriding aim of all medical care which includes first aids , is to save lives and
minimize the threat of death. First aid done correctly should help reduce the patient’s
level of pain and calm them down during the evaluation and treatment process.
• As a professional we have certain responsibilities when accidents or sudden illness occur.
The action to be taken is usually determined by each situation with the individual
circumstances of incident. First aid is the immediately care provided by the people until
the professional services are made available .
6. INCIDENCE
1,50,000 people death takes place per year due to the lack of first aid.
Situations where first aid would potentially make a difference include suffocation due
to blocked airways which claim 2500 lives every year and heart attacks which kills
29000.
7. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
“A STUDY TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE REGARDING FIRST AID
AMONG B.SC NURSING FIRST YEARSTUDENT IN SIMS GROUP OF
INSTITUTION, MANGALDAS NAGAR, GUNTUR.”

students.
To associate the level of knowledge regarding first aid among B.SC Nursing first
year students with selected demographic variable.
9. OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS
ASSESS:- In this study assess refers to organized systemic process of collecting
the information about the knowledge regarding first aid among first year B.SC
Nursing student.
KNOWLEDGE:- Knowledge means state of knowing about effect of first aid.
FIRST AID:- First aid is an emergency care given immediately to an injured
person.
B.SC NURSING STUDENT:- B.SC Nursing students are a group of student
studying in Bachelor's of Science in nursing which is a 4 years undergraduate
course in the field of medical science.

H1:- There is a significant association between selected demographic variable and
knowledge of first year B.SC Nursing students at selected .
11. ASSUMPTION
THE PRESENT STUDY ASSUMES THAT –
B.SC Nursing first year student may have inadequate knowledge towards first aid.
12. DELIMITATIONS
Assessment of knowledge regarding first aid on Nursing student.
Four weeks of data collection.
Sixty sample in selected college only.
14. REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Literature review refers to the activities involved in identifying and searching for
information on topic and developing a comprehensive picture of the state of
knowledge on that topic (Polit & Hungler).
15. THE REVIEW OF LITERATURE FOR THE PRESENT
STUDY IS PRESENTED UNDER FOLLOWING HEADINGS –
1. Studies related to knowledge about first aid in student.
2. Studies related to protect the lives through first aid in students.
3. Studies related to impact of first aid skills in students.
16. ‘MAYAVERMOUDEN’ (2023), A cross sectional study was conducted in college
and school students in Flanders. Only 11.2% of the total student participants had
previous exposure to first aid training. Good knowledge about first aid was observed
in (13.8%), moderate knowledge in 68.4% participants and poor knowledge in
17.8% participants. Analysis of knowledge about first aid management in select
conditions found that 21%. All students felt that first aid skills need to be taught
from school level onwards and all of them were willing.
17. ‘ASMA ALANAZI’ (2022 MAY 30)., A cross sectional study is conducted in
KSAU-HS , Riadh , about the knowledge of first aid among medical students. Out
of 326 students, 3.1% scored excellent, 30.4 % good, 41.7% average, 23% poor
and 1.8% very poor.
‘ARASU, SAVAN SARA MATHEW’ (JANUARY 2020)., A cross sectional
study was done in a private general degree college in urban Bangalore. The study
was conducted on total 370 students, the mean age was 19.42. Only 192 (52%)
had attended a lecture related to first aid before & 48( 13%) had shown how to
perform first aid . About 188(51%) reported learning about first aid by reading
news papers or magazines.
18. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology is a significant part of any study which enables the
researcher to project the research is undertaken. Research methodology enables
the research to project a blue print of the details, data, approach, analysis and
findings of the research undertaken.
(Suresh K Sharma)
The chapter includes research approach, research design, setting of the study,
variables, population, sample size, sampling technique, criteria for the sampling
section an developing the description tool, validity, reliability, pilot study, data
collection procedure and plan for data analysis.
19. RESEARCH DESIGN
Research design is a blue print that the researcher select to carry out there research
study. It is the researcher overall plan for answering the research questions on
testing hypothesis.
( Suresh k Sharma 2018)
For the present study, a descriptive research design was adopted to assess the
knowledge regarding first aid among the students in B.SC Nursing first year .
20. RESEARCH APPROACH
Research approach involves the description of the plan to investigate the
phenomenon under study in a structured (quantitative), unstructured (qualitative)
or a combination of the two methods.
For the present study, a quantitative research approach was adopted.
21. SETTING OF THE STUDY
Research setting are specific places in a research where data collection is to be
used the selection of setting was done on the basis of the feasibility of conducting
study, availability, permission of authorities.
( Polit & Hungler 2002 )
The present study will be conducted at SIMS Group Of Institution, Mangaldas
nagar, Guntur.
22. POPULATION
Population refers to the entire aggregation of cases that meet the designated
criteria .
( Suresh K Sharma 2018 )
The population for the present study are the B.SC Nursing first year student in
SIMS Group Of Institution.

The entire population in which the researcher are interested and which they would
like to generalize the research finding . The target population for the present study
is B.SC Nursing first year.
( Suresh K Sharma )

study .
26. SAMPLING CRITERIA
INCLUSION CRITERIA -
1. B.SC Nursing first year students.
2. Students from selected college.
3. Students who are available at the time of data collection.
EXCLUSION CRITERIA -
1. Students who already attempt similar type of study.
27. RESEARCH VARIABLES
A research variable refers to the attributes characteristics that can have more than
one value such as height or weight . In other words, variables are qualities,
quantities properties or characteristics of people , things or situations that change
or vary. In this study the research variable was knowledge of B.SC Nursing first
year student regarding first aid .
( Suresh k Sharma 2018 )
