W.E.B. Du Bois was an American sociologist, historian, civil rights activist, Pan-Africanist, author, and editor who was one of the founders of the NAACP. He received his bachelor's degree from Fisk University and his master's degree and PhD from Harvard University, where he was the first African American to earn a PhD. Du Bois wrote the seminal work "The Souls of Black Folk" and coined the phrase "The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line," highlighting the issue of racism and racial segregation in America.
