Chapter two
This video and the chapter did make one thing clear, that there needs to be some sort of changes made in our schools today. Children are growing at different paces and learning in new ways and todays educational organizations need to find ways to keep up with the modern society. We cannot rush children and at the same time we cannot hold others back. The curriculum is forced upon teachers and leaves very little room for creativity and growth. Stimulation may be harder to find in some children and even in some teachers but forcing all to work at the same pace and same structure cannot be the answer.
I do agree that schools have good intentions and have the best interest of the children in mind however they have created an organized functional framework that seems to be leaving a lot of children in the dark or failing behind. Some kids are not being exposed to the proper amount of stimulation or influence they need to thrive and develop. .Grading scales should be tampered with in a manner that fits individual needs and talents.

After watching the RSA Animate and reading chapter two, I have come to the realization that schools need to change. Not tomorrow, but now. Schools are stuck in the period of industrial revolution, rather than modern/technological progress. I will highlight two of the points made by the video and the chapter that have convinced me that something needs to change. Both the movie and our chapter discussed how students are sent through the assembly line of school by their chrnological age -- as if it is the most important factor. I do agree that age is a factor, but what are the other factors? There is intellectual age, developmental stage, and social skills stages amongst others. I agree that a 7 year old in first grade who is competent to do 3rd grade work should not be in first grade. But I'm not sure if the 7 year old should be grouped with the developmental age/social skills age of 9-10 year olds. Regardless of this point, sending students through school simply on the factor of age is a major disservice to the student. I currently work with a 7th grader who has failed every 6th grade class last year and is currently failing every 7th grade class. He is not even being considered for retainment because he hit puberty first and he looks like he's 14. There needs to be a balance between intellectual levels and chronological age. I'm not sure where that balance is or what is the most important, but the system does need to change.
My second point is that of the content being taught and how it is taught. In reality, teachers have no choice of .

The presentations for this week’s discussion have influenced my perceptions of the common good. They have highlighted the importance of policy and practical wisdom and their fantastic effect on education. For example, in Bruno’s presentation, she discusses the importance of due process, which leads to others owning their decisions and making necessary changes that affect the greater good. Bruno also imparts her wisdom on the importance of documentation to support due process (National Association for the Education of Young Children, 2014). Schwartz outlines the importance of using practical wisdom. Practical wisdom is the moral will to do the right thing and the skill to know the right thing (TED Conferences, LLC, 2011). A wise person can be flexible when dealing with others and knows how to bend the rules for the greater good with the proper needs in mind. Practical wisdom requires the person to have a desire to do the right thing.
Schwartz uses the example of a teacher who listened to a consultant trying to help the school boost its test scores. The consultant’s advice was for educators not to waste their time on students who will pass the test, don’t waste time on students who won’t pass no matter what, and kids whose scores will not matter. This consultant’s idea is to focus on the bubble kids, the kids that will make a difference. The teacher was upset by this advice because she believed all students matter. Schwartz’s point is that rules are essential, but some rules will demoralize the practitioners and the practice. Rules and incentives create people who only work for the incentive.
Similarly, we, as educators, work to reach students through incentives. Students begin to work for the incentive rather than the desire to learn. Thankfully there is a way out of the rules and incentive system through people willing to be system changers. The system changers use courage not to leave the system but to work to change the system (TED Conferences, LLC, 2011).
Courage is needed to make system changes. We have policies and rules because we see the importance of having a standard of operation. However, not every situation fits the standard. Therefore, flexibility and practical wisdom matter. Fromberg presents the idea of high-stakes testing as sanctioned child abuse. She highlights the importance of play and risk-taking in the learning process. Unfortunately, administrators and teachers are placed in positions to use standardized tests and scripted lessons. The first project was a series of vignettes on my school life and cheating. It also demonstrated how the activities of my classmates affected my perception as well as my limitations. The second project was based on how Kilbourne’s criticism and the outlook of women. By analyzing advertisements that showed beautiful women and how it created an image of the perfect housewife or woman. The topics have been instrumental in my academic career and have motivated my intentions to help my classmates. Therefore, my opinions have not changed but I have become more concern about the issues. They have a direct effect in my life both at school and home as they sculpture my appreciation of society and the education system. The most important aspects of the topics are mainly ethics and the effects specific environments have on development. The teaching staff, parents and other students need deeper comprehension of the topics. This is mainly because they are the main stakeholders when the matter is being addressed.
The main topic to focus on is the effects of the environment on child development. In the last project, it was identified that the environment has a direct effect on the development of children; additionally, there is scientific data to support the fact. Therefore, the environment in which a child develops also influences their learning attributes. This can be from the setting at school, home or interactions with other students and/or children. Overall, the areas where a child spends a considerable amount of time might either have a negative or positive side effect. This message is targeted to parents and teaching staff as they are responsible for the general development of children and students respectively. By enlightening them on this fact, changes can be made for the betterment of the development of the children. For example, assistance with their holiday homework, promoting ethical behaviors and finally, promoting social activities. With these reasons forming the base of the argument, they can be further modified and implemented in various activities to better the development of children and students from both perspectives.

My name is McKenzie Berndt. I have been married for 17 years to my husband Josh and have two children; Hallee who is 15 and Josh Jr. who is 11. My family and I currently live in South Carolina. My husband is in the military and over the past 17 years we have lived in seven states. We are planning on staying here in South Carolina until our daughter graduates from high school and then plan on moving out west where most of our family lives.

Degree/specialization
I currently am certified in Emotional Disabilities but work as a behavior resource teacher at an elementary school. The class I teach is a pilot program to assist students with behavioral issues and teaching the students how to regulate his or her emotions. I teach a lot of social skills and also push in with students during times where he or she have difficulties. Since implementing this program the school I am at has seen a huge decline in behavior and I am hoping that this program will continue on to other schools in our district.

Goal
My goal in earning this degree is to try and learn as much information that I can and use that information within the classroom. I want to be able to help as many students as I can and help him or her to reach his or her goals and dreams.

Learning Outcomes
The mastery of each CLO will make me more marketable in my profession because it will give me the knowledge and skills of how to integrate different things into the classroom so that my students can be more successful. It also gives me the understanding of diverse learners and how to teach so that each student learns to the best of his or her ability. Final project
For the final project I will be presenting to a board about integrating technology more into the classrooms at the school in my district. I will have to show how it will benefit students in these schools and make sure to use a lot of different types of graphics that do not take away from my information. I’m thinking that I will take the stance of an educator because being in the classroom and seeing how technology will enhance learning from an educator’s point of view will benefit my proposal. I think having the knowledge of what the classroom is like now and how it could be if technology were integrated is beneficial. I think this project is exciting because technology is becoming more prevalent in society and so students need to utilize it so he or she have a better understanding of how it works so it will prepare him or her for after school is over. Chapter two
This video and the chapter did make one thing clear, that there needs to be some sort of changes made in our schools today. Children are growing at different paces and learning in new ways and todays educational organizations need to find ways to keep up with the modern society. We cannot rush children and at the same time we cannot hold others back. The curriculum is forced upon teachers and leaves very little room for creativity and growth. Stimulation may be harder to find in some children and even in some teachers but forcing all to work at the same pace and same structure cannot be the answer.
I do agree that schools have good intentions and have the best interest of the children in mind however they have created an organized functional framework that seems to be leaving a lot of children in the dark or failing behind. Some kids are not being exposed to the proper amount of stimulation or influence they need to thrive and develop. .Grading scales should be tampered with in a manner that fits individual needs and talents.

After watching the RSA Animate and reading chapter two, I have come to the realization that schools need to change. Not tomorrow, but now. Schools are stuck in the period of industrial revolution, rather than modern/technological progress. I will highlight two of the points made by the video and the chapter that have convinced me that something needs to change. Both the movie and our chapter discussed how students are sent through the assembly line of school by their chrnological age -- as if it is the most important factor. I do agree that age is a factor, but what are the other factors? There is intellectual age, developmental stage, and social skills stages amongst others. I agree that a 7 year old in first grade who is competent to do 3rd grade work should not be in first grade. But I'm not sure if the 7 year old should be grouped with the developmental age/social skills age of 9-10 year olds. Regardless of this point, sending students through school simply on the factor of age is a major disservice to the student. I currently work with a 7th grader who has failed every 6th grade class last year and is currently failing every 7th grade class. He is not even being considered for retainment because he hit puberty first and he looks like he's 14. There needs to be a balance between intellectual levels and chronological age. I'm not sure where that balance is or what is the most important, but the system does need to change.
My second point is that of the content being taught and how it is taught. In reality, teachers have no choice of .

The presentations for this week’s discussion have influenced my perceptions of the common good. They have highlighted the importance of policy and practical wisdom and their fantastic effect on education. For example, in Bruno’s presentation, she discusses the importance of due process, which leads to others owning their decisions and making necessary changes that affect the greater good. Bruno also imparts her wisdom on the importance of documentation to support due process (National Association for the Education of Young Children, 2014). Schwartz outlines the importance of using practical wisdom. Practical wisdom is the moral will to do the right thing and the skill to know the right thing (TED Conferences, LLC, 2011). A wise person can be flexible when dealing with others and knows how to bend the rules for the greater good with the proper needs in mind. Practical wisdom requires the person to have a desire to do the right thing.
Schwartz uses the example of a teacher who listened to a consultant trying to help the school boost its test scores. The consultant’s advice was for educators not to waste their time on students who will pass the test, don’t waste time on students who won’t pass no matter what, and kids whose scores will not matter. This consultant’s idea is to focus on the bubble kids, the kids that will make a difference. The teacher was upset by this advice because she believed all students matter. Schwartz’s point is that rules are essential, but some rules will demoralize the practitioners and the practice. Rules and incentives create people who only work for the incentive.
Similarly, we, as educators, work to reach students through incentives. Students begin to work for the incentive rather than the desire to learn. Thankfully there is a way out of the rules and incentive system through people willing to be system changers. The system changers use courage not to leave the system but to work to change the system (TED Conferences, LLC, 2011).
Courage is needed to make system changes. We have policies and rules because we see the importance of having a standard of operation. However, not every situation fits the standard. Therefore, flexibility and practical wisdom matter. Fromberg presents the idea of high-stakes testing as sanctioned child abuse. She highlights the importance of play and risk-taking in the learning process. Unfortunately, administrators and teachers are placed in positions to use standardized tests and scripted lessons. The first project was a series of vignettes on my school life and cheating. It also demonstrated how the activities of my classmates affected my perception as well as my limitations. The second project was based on how Kilbourne’s criticism and the outlook of women. By analyzing advertisements that showed beautiful women and how it created an image of the perfect housewife or woman. The topics have been instrumental in my academic career and have motivated my intentions to help my classmates. Therefore, my opinions have not changed but I have become more concern about the issues. They have a direct effect in my life both at school and home as they sculpture my appreciation of society and the education system. The most important aspects of the topics are mainly ethics and the effects specific environments have on development. The teaching staff, parents and other students need deeper comprehension of the topics. This is mainly because they are the main stakeholders when the matter is being addressed.
The main topic to focus on is the effects of the environment on child development. In the last project, it was identified that the environment has a direct effect on the development of children; additionally, there is scientific data to support the fact. Therefore, the environment in which a child develops also influences their learning attributes. This can be from the setting at school, home or interactions with other students and/or children. Overall, the areas where a child spends a considerable amount of time might either have a negative or positive side effect. This message is targeted to parents and teaching staff as they are responsible for the general development of children and students respectively. By enlightening them on this fact, changes can be made for the betterment of the development of the children. For example, assistance with their holiday homework, promoting ethical behaviors and finally, promoting social activities. With these reasons forming the base of the argument, they can be further modified and implemented in various activities to better the development of children and students from both perspectives.

My name is McKenzie Berndt. I have been married for 17 years to my husband Josh and have two children; Hallee who is 15 and Josh Jr. who is 11. My family and I currently live in South Carolina. My husband is in the military and over the past 17 years we have lived in seven states. We are planning on staying here in South Carolina until our daughter graduates from high school and then plan on moving out west where most of our family lives.

Degree/specialization
I currently am certified in Emotional Disabilities but work as a behavior resource teacher at an elementary school. The class I teach is a pilot program to assist students with behavioral issues and teaching the students how to regulate his or her emotions. I teach a lot of social skills and also push in with students during times where he or she have difficulties. Since implementing this program the school I am at has seen a huge decline in behavior and I am hoping that this program will continue on to other schools in our district.

Goal
My goal in earning this degree is to try and learn as much information that I can and use that information within the classroom. I want to be able to help as many students as I can and help him or her to reach his or her goals and dreams.

Learning Outcomes
The mastery of each CLO will make me more marketable in my profession because it will give me the knowledge and skills of how to integrate different things into the classroom so that my students can be more successful. It also gives me the understanding of diverse learners and how to teach so that each student learns to the best of his or her ability. This also allows me to be more effective by learning about how to utilize different strategies for the different types of learners. Knowing and understanding how to do this will make me a better employee and teacher.

Final project
For the final project I will be presenting to a board about integrating technology more into the classrooms at the school in my district. I will have to show how it will benefit students in these schools and make sure to use a lot of different types of graphics that do not take away from my information. I’m thinking that I will take the stance of an educator because being in the classroom and seeing how technology will enhance learning from an educator’s point of view will benefit my proposal. I think having the knowledge of what the classroom is like now and how it could be if technology were integrated is beneficial. I think this project is exciting because technology is becoming more prevalent in society and so students need to utilize it so he or she have a better understanding of how it works so it will prepare him or her for after school is over. - 14. A vision of k-12 students today I don’t believe that this video would be of much use if shown to children as it would not challenge them in any way, nor provoke learning. This video would be useful however when used to challenge the older generations into acknowledging that the world is changing and the techniques that worked so well in the past, may not work again in the future. It is relevant to student lives as it has facts about the average student and is aiming to promote a better education for the future workforce.

What I have learnt I believe that forbidden would be of more use in a classroom situation and could be harnessed effectively to raise points for discussion that are relevant to the syllabus such as different people in the community and the morals and independence of the elderly. This film could be watched before a class discussion as it is very effective at creating emotion and a connection with the viewer.
- 16. What I have learnt The second artefact was not as captivating as forbidden was in my opinion, it did not show me any new information and was not surprising at all. I do believe, however, that if shown to the correct audience that this could be very effective in changes peoples ideas or perceptions on what can be harnessed for learning purposes.

- The artefacts that were given for analysing were forbidden a shortfilm from the tropfest movie competition it is well directed and well shot. And a vision of kinder to year 12 students of today. This is a youtube clip which is used to inspire teachers to engage their students through new technollogy and prepare them for the world of the future, where a knowledge of technology is priceless.
- Filmmaking in pdhpe, if used effectively, can help students achieve many of the key requirements of the syllabus. Including the ability to communicate effectively, have competence and confidence in a range of contexts and devise and implement plans to achieve goals. Filmmaking also gives students a felling of independence as it is their own project and they are required to be creative and organised.
- It effectively shows a view from all three perspectives throughout the short film which gives the viewer enough information to have their own interpretation about what to think. It uses engaging music and poses questions to the viewer to draw them In and provoke a response.
- Forbidden is very effective at making all the characters seem under duress and it makes the viewer feel very empathetic towards their siruation, it shows all relationships well, from the impressionable child to the stressed mother and then the aging grandmother. It makes the viewer feel what the director Is trying to convey through effective camera angles such as showing the girl copying the mother when playing with her doll, or showing the grandmother helpless on the toilet while the little girl watches her mothers reaction.A vision ….. Did not engage me as a viewer as much as forbidden did as its chocie of no dialogue puts the emphasis that is placed on the facts and the cards the students hold completely up to how the viewer reads it in their head. This of course will vary from person to person. And cause different reactions. It directly asks the viewer questions and uses a variety of children from different age, sthnicity and gender groups
