*The students’ project is 
about the decrease of 
biodiversity and its 
impact on the 
population of Egyptian 
vultures in our area 
which is a particularly 
characteristic case.

*FEBRUARY 2014 
*A presentation of the project titled “the sense of 
biodiversity and the phenomenon of its decrease as a 
result deriving from human interference” by Mr. 
Efstathiou Christos, member of our pedagogical team. 
The impact of this phenomenon on the birds of our 
area were presented and gone over as its most 
characteristic example. 
*Then, our students were divided into groups and 
undertook the task to select as much information as 
possible in order to prepare the first project which is 
to be presented to you by KOSTAS PAPARSENIS and 
NIKOLAK KIOYTEZA.
* 
Mr. Vavilis Dimitris, a collaborator 
of the Greek Ornithological 
Society, who is also responsible for 
the monitoring as well as the 
protection of the Egyptian Vulture 
in our region, informed our 
students about his work and 
answered their questions. That 
“conference” took place in our 
school, for this particular reason, 
and was showed off by the local 
mass media. 
The groups of our students, again, 
collected all the necessary data 
and prepared the second project 
that MESITI KLEITA and ROUDOS 
NICKOS are going to present to 
you.

* 
There was an activity in the area of 
Meteora where Egyptian vultures 
nest, that is they make their nests. 
Our students and three of the 
members of our pedagogical team, 
Mr Efstathiou, Mr Kotsis and Mr 
Trigas, following the directions of Mr 
Vavilis’, the cooperator of the Greek 
Ornithological Society mentioned 
above, observed one of the last 
couples of Egyptian Vultures left in 
our territory near their nest, on the 
steep rocks. 
In parallel, there was a “briefing” 
about the way people in charge 
track down the poisoned baits that 
are the main cause for the 
extinction of Egyptian Vultures in 
our area with the help of a dog 
which is specifically trained for this 
task.
* 
The activity was 
shown off by the 
local mass media 
and published on 
the site of the 
Greek 
Ornithological 
Society. Also, there 
is a video about 
this activity that 
we are going to 
show to you later 
on.
*The presentations of our projects were 
accomplished via Prezi, a contemporary Web 
2.0 tool. 
* The translations into the English Language 
were accomplished by our students with the 
supervision of Mrs, Maria Sakka, a member of 
our pedagogical team as well.
