They were divided into groups to research the topic and two groups presented their findings. They learned about the work of a local collaborator who monitors and protects Egyptian vultures. The students also had a hands-on opportunity to observe one of the last Egyptian vulture couples in the area near their nest with the collaborator. They saw how conservationists track down poisoned baits that threaten the vultures.

The document discusses conservation efforts for the San Martin titi monkey in Peru. It describes how Proyecto Mono Tocón works with local associations to establish conservation concessions to protect forest areas where the monkeys live. Their goal is to create a network of concessions to allow for connectivity between forest fragments. The organization is also working on education and outreach programs to promote conservation in the region and support existing small reserves like Pucunucho that provide habitat for the monkeys.

The 6 th World Parks Congress was organized in Sydney, Australia, in November 2014. More than 6,000 people from 170 countries attended this event which enabled conservation professionals to take stock of progress made since the previous congress, in Durban, South Africa, in 2003. And also to discuss the challenges that have emerged since then. From this point of view, Africa is particularly under pressure. The causes are many and have been the subject of numerous evaluations, some of them led by the IUCN Program on African Protected Areas & Conservation (IUCN-Papaco) since 2006. In addition to poor management effectiveness, one of these causes is the weak governance of most PAs, which negatively impacts on all activities that are conducted on the ground. That is why IUCN-Papaco focuses on governance in the context of a roadmap for Protected Areas: more ethical behavior, more legitimacy for decisions, accountability and transparency in the way they are made, more stakeholders involved, more professionalism for managers, more ownership of the tremendous assets that PAs offer, more recognition for those who succeed, more durability forconservation... these are the directions that this roadmap tries to promote for the future of conservation in Africa. To ensure a good participation of Africa at the congress, we launched a call for proposals open to stakeholders involved in and around PAs. The objective was to prepare key messages that would be brought to the congress by a team of conservationists coming from all over the continent. This was a great success and we received more than 150 proposals (from 33 African countries). After a rigorous selection process, 22 candidates were selected and became our "champions". Their messages cover all aspects of PA good governance, PA management efficiency and the sustainability of conservation. Together, they deliver a comprehensive and consistent message about the present and the future of protected areas on the continent and were to some extent "the voice of Africa" at the congress. All these champions indeed travelled to Sydney and were able to speak clearly and loudly about conservation in Africa. And they were listened to. This book is about this fantastic journey. It gathers all these experiences and tells you the story of our 22 champions, their messages and their hope. Whilst certainly not comprehensive, it gives you a good overview of what Africa can produce in terms of conservation when stakeholders, on the ground, commit themselves for the sake of African Nature.

It aims to strengthen the capacity of vulnerable groups like the poor, elderly, women and children who are most severely impacted by disasters. The Philippines is highly prone to natural disasters like earthquakes, typhoons and volcanoes due to its geographical location in the Pacific Ring of Fire. It also experiences human-induced disasters caused by issues like poverty, pollution and substandard infrastructure. The Act recognizes the importance of disaster risk reduction and management in achieving development goals and protecting lives and livelihoods from the destructive impacts of disasters.

A project officially launched in 2011 focusing on local and indigenous knowledge related to hydro- meteorological hazards and climate change in Indonesia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste has documented local and indigenous knowledge and practices that help communities to predict, mitigate and adapt to hazards; developed tools for integrating local and indigenous knowledge with science; and published information, education and communication materials that integrate local and indigenous knowledge and science on hydro-meteorological hazard risk reduction and climate change impacts.

It documents stories of those impacted by deforestation and shares them in schools to inspire solutions. Its objectives are to develop an educational framework focusing on media advocacy against deforestation, engage and mobilize Indonesia's youth as forest stewards, and create youth-perspective content on deforestation's impacts.
Eco Friendly Sustainable Development In Ani
This document provides an analysis of policy and development strategies to promote eco-friendly and sustainable development in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (ANI). It begins with an introduction to the tribes and economic opportunities in ANI, as well as the challenges to development. It then discusses the history of development in ANI under British rule and post-independence. Several forest policies and their evolution in India are examined. Successful development models employed elsewhere in India, such as eco-tourism, cooperative models, and natural solutions by tribal societies, are studied. The document proposes how these models could be applied to ANI to promote sustainable development while protecting the environment and tribal communities.

Towards this mission, Saritsa Foundation in partnership with Deen Dayal Upadhyay Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India is organizing awareness and preparedness workshops for University staff and student’s on 15th February 2014. The team of experts will prepare the participants to be awareness raisers amongst youth to sensitize Disaster Risk Reduction at societal level.
It is an ongoing mission by Saritsa Foundation to build a momentum to mainstream the people to share information, expertise and local resources as well as imparting education and practical training to make participants to mind map risks to their community and develop viable response mechanism. It is being implemented with minimal resources with commitment, accountability and innovative partnerships.
World Heritage Convention

El Puerto de Algeciras continúa un año más como el más eficiente del continente europeo y vuelve a situarse en el “top ten” mundial, según el informe The Container Port Performance Index 2023 (CPPI), elaborado por el Banco Mundial y la consultora S&P Global.
El informe CPPI utiliza dos enfoques metodológicos diferentes para calcular la clasificación del índice: uno administrativo o técnico y otro estadístico, basado en análisis factorial (FA). Según los autores, esta dualidad pretende asegurar una clasificación que refleje con precisión el rendimiento real del puerto, a la vez que sea estadísticamente sólida. En esta edición del informe CPPI 2023, se han empleado los mismos enfoques metodológicos y se ha aplicado un método de agregación de clasificaciones para combinar los resultados de ambos enfoques y obtener una clasificación agregada.

- 2. #1 Do not forget Extremely destructive tsunamis happen on century scale intervals. It was not the first of ist kind. A memory must be kept for future generations. In Banda Aceh there are memorials, now, that could preserve this memory. They must be mantained throughout the centuries.

- 5. #2 Early warning systems are a must Early warning systems must be in place. Operational since 2013, there is a system of geophones, buoys, satellites, operated by centers in India, Indonesia, Australia. They can dispatch warns within minutes.

- 7. #3 Technology alone is not enough Technology changes fast. Complex systems may fail. Mantainance is expensive. Institutions slow reaction to warnings may hamper emergency measures. There is the need for various measures to be in place, some of them not technology-, rather community-based (lessons #4 and #5).
