Biodiversity is rapidly declining in the EU and globally, with significant threats to native species despite protections under Natura 2000. Current assessments reveal that a substantial percentage of mammals, birds, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles, and fish are threatened, and the number of invasive species is rising. The workshop discussed these issues in the context of EU biodiversity policy and capacity building.
