4. The sack race or gunny sack race is a competitive game in which
participants place both of their legs inside a sack or pillow case
that reaches their waist or neck and jump forward from a starting
point toward a finish line. The first person to cross the finish line
is the winner of the race. In some cases the winner of these races
is rewarded with a prize of some sort. [1]
Sack racing is traditionally seen as an activity for children. But
people of any age can play in this challenging game. In schools,
the sack race often takes place on Sports Day, alongside
numerous other events such as the egg and spoon race. It is also
a frequent pastime at fairs, and birthday parties. Sack races are
also commonly seen at picnics.Sack Race is a one of major game
in the Sinhala and Tamil New Year Sri Lanka. The game
originated from a drunk farmer who climbed into his potato
sack. Only to witness his tractor was rolling down a hill, in a
spontaneous burst of desperation he hopped in the sac after the
tractor. And thus the concept was born.
The sack race or gunny sack race is a
competitive game in which
participants place both of their legs
inside a sack or pillow case.

5. Rules and Regulations of
Gunny Sack Race
Individual Sack Race:
•To play we need one burlap sack for each individual participant.
Participants will run to the sack, put both feet in and begin hopping
toward the finish line.
•Contestants must keep both feet in sack and at least one hand on
the sack at all times.
•The sack must remain as close to the waist as possible and should
not fall below the knees.
•The first racer to the finish line wins.
Team Sack Race:
•To play you need one burlap sack for each team. The more teams
racing, the more fun it is.
•Start with 10 people per team (or an even number); 5 people on
each side of the field (or applicable number if starting with less than
10 per team).
•Start the race on one end and have each person tag the next in the
other line. Continue until the team finishes.

Pinning Down the Pointed History of “Pin
the Tail on the Donkey”
and this image depicts the game
in early 1960’s.
But the game is much older. This
early comic strip shows a “Donkey
Party” in 1906:
9. This game is for young children. It is played at
birthday parties. There is a poster of a donkey.
The donkey has no tail. There are numbered tails.
The children line up. Each child gets a turn.
For his turn, he puts on a blindfold. All the
children make sure he cannot see! He is turned
around one time. Then he tries to find the poster
and pin his tail in the right place. Everyone
laughs! It is funny to see a donkey with tails on
its nose, back, and ears. Some tails are not even
on the poster! The tail closest to the right spot
wins!

11. This traditional Chinese game is a great fun
for the playground. You will need a large
group of children - at least 10, but the more
the merrier!
12. The children all form a line with their hands on
the shoulders of the child in front. The first in
line is the dragon's head, the last in line is the
dragon's tail.
The dragon's head then tries to catch the tail by
manoeuvring the line around so that he can tag
the last player. All the players in the middle do
their best to hinder the dragon's head. Don't let
the line break!
When the head catches the tail, the tail player
takes the front position and becomes the new
dragon's head. All the other players move back
one position.
