Synchronous communication allows for real-time interaction through video conferencing, instant messaging, and virtual classrooms. Skype is an example of a free software that allows for voice and video calls between users as well as instant messaging. It has over 400 million users and is useful for distance language learning by allowing face-to-face video conferencing. Global Virtual Classroom is another example that connects students from around the world through online chat, messaging, and video conferencing for educational activities. Both have benefits of making learning more accessible and comfortable through real-time feedback but also have disadvantages when technology fails or with differences in time zones.
