Title: Light Phenomena
Content
1. What is light
2. Properties of light
What is light?
 Light is an electromagnetic wave, namely the wave vibration of
which Is electric field and magnetic field.
 Visible light: Is a light wave we can see. It is a mixture of all the
colors of the rainbow.
Properties of light
 Light rays travel in straight lines from the light source.
 When it hits an opaque object, some light is absorbed and the rest
reflects off.
 If the object is transparent, light rays pass through it easily
 If the object is translucent some light can pass through but rest of the
light will be reflected.
 Light travel very fast
 Light has a dual nature
 Light carries energy and information
Light Properties
Reflection
 Diffuse Reflection: Reflected rays go in different direction.
 Regular reflection: Reflected rays go in one direction
Refraction
 This Usually happens when the light travels from one medium to the
next medium and follow snel law.
Diffraction
 This is defined as the bending of light waves around obstacles in its
path.
Interference
 Constructive interference: Crest of one wave crest of another wave
adding to a wave of increase amplitude
 Destructive interference
 Crest of one wave overlaps the trough of another , amplitude effects
are reduced.
