This study evaluated the effect of geomembrane surface asperities on the shear behavior of polypropylene and polyester geotextile-geomembrane interfaces. Tests were conducted on smooth and textured geomembranes with varying asperity heights and densities. Results showed that textured geomembranes had higher peak and large displacement friction angles compared to smooth geomembranes. Polyester interfaces exhibited higher shear strength than polypropylene interfaces. Increasing asperity volume from 2.39 to 4.01 resulted in an average 19% increase in friction angle. The findings can help increase the design life of landfill liners by improving interface shear strength.

Generally bituminous pavements face problems like cracks, rutting, depression and corrugation during it’s period of service. In this paper, we attempted various method of experiments both in traditional and mix design with bi products and therefore a comparative study has been made for extracting the finest results for the betterment of highway pavements (flexible) and for that our key elements were fly ash, geo-polymer and pieces of waste conveyer belt, added to bitumen for increasing the strength and overall capacity of pavements. Fly ash added to bitumen in the penetration test has shown improvement of 52 mm which was 40mm traditionally. Whereas, geo polymer and bitumen give the result of 74mm penetration. Ductility test with fly ash showed 37.23cm, very rigid. But geo-polymer and bitumen gave the result of 75.77cm. For increasing the bearing capacity of base soil we added pieces of waste conveyer belts and CBR value has shown the increment of 35% from 30%. So, those results convey that, the waste materials and bi products have enough quality to increase the strength and flexibility of pavements which will further help to the construction workers and engineers for maintaining and repairing flexible pavements which last long.

An Experimental Study on strength behavior of Pavement using jute geo textile IJERA Editor
This experimental investigation studies the benefits of reinforcing the various sub grade soils in flexible pavement. Three types of soils A, B and C and a particular type of Jute geo textile material were selected for the study. Fundamental properties of soils like specific gravity, liquid limit, plastic limit and optimum moisture content were determined on unreinforced soils; California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test and Unconfined Compression (UCC) Strength test were also conducted on unreinforced and reinforced soils. The optimum quantity of jute geo textile was arrived based on the results from CBR test, other parameters such as modulus of elasticity and failure stress were ascertained from the results of UCC test. Using the optimum geo textile content, the thickness of pavement required over the three types of sub grade soils with and without reinforcement was determined based on the guidelines specified in IRC 37-2001. A comparative analysis was carried out to identify the economy in the material due to the effect of reinforcing the soils with jute geo textile. Subsequently cost benefit analysis of reinforced and unreinforced pavement was also done to ascertain the economic viability of fibre material. From the result analysis it was observed there is a significant material save of about 25% per every km of pavement

Abstract Stone dust is a kind of waste material that is generated from the stone crushing industry which is abundantly available to the extent of 200 million tonnes per annum , that has landfill disposal problems and health and environmental hazards. This study cover on utilization of stone dust reinforced with PET strips(polyethylene terephthalete)improving the sub grade. Now a day’s both stone dust and plastic water bottles are creating environmental disposal problem as well as health problem. Therefore utilization of these waste material in proper manner is creating challenge to society. PET strips obtained from waste plastic water bottle, were mixed randomly with stone dust. A series of California bearing ratio (CBR) tests were carried out on reinforced stone dust. Three different sizes of PET strips were used in this study. The effect of strips content(0.25% to 2%) and length on the CBR value of reinforced stonedust were investigated. Addition of PET strips with in stone dust with appropriate amount improved the strength of sub grade. This reinforcing material can used as sub grade material in constructing the rural road over saturated clay. This method is a environmental friendly and reduce the disposal problem. Abstract Soft subgrade soil poses challenge for construction of pavements. These soft subgrade soils have a tendency to absorb high moisture content and exhibit high compressibility. Under loads. Because of which the life of pavement constructed over these is highly suffered. Among notable properties plasticity index is a reliable property as listed in literature for identifying these soft soil and nature of compressibility. Soil stabilization is one of the techniques listed in literature for improving these soft soils. Often the stabilization suffers due to high cost particularly improving deep deposits of soft soil and time consuming. . Providing stiff layer with gravelly soil can solve the problem to majority extent. These gravelly layer of soils bear the load and distribute through arch action, to, minimize the stresses to soft soil. .However the efficiency of these gravely layer depends on their relative thickness and prevention from mixing with soft subsoil. This paper discusses the efficacy of overlying aggregate to improve CBR values of soft subgrade in the presence of separator geotextile. The thickness of aggregate is varied and expressed by Hr (a fraction to soil thickness given as Ha/Hs.). Laboratory CBR tests are conducted on four subgrade types with varying in plasticity & fines content overlying with gravelly aggregate with Hr varied from 0, to 0.5 in increments of 0.1.It is observed that PI, Hr and fines content effect CBR. The influence is more pronounced with Plasticity and percent fines. Also the increase (%) is marginal for samples with high Hr. 4. • Geosynthetics are polymeric planar product
used mostly with soil and rock, and acts as an
integral part of many engineering project and
structure (ASTM D5321, 2014).
• Common geosynthetics used in landfills liners
are geomembranes and geotextiles. They can
perform functions such as liquid barriers,
filtration, separation, reinforcement, and
drainage.
• Smooth geomembranes are prone to low shear
resistance at slope interface, hence, the need for
surface texturing.

6. Materials and Methodology
• Two different geotextiles
(polypropylene and polyester) and
three geomembranes with varying
asperity height and density were the
geosynthetics used in this study to
carry out 30 interfaces shear test.
• The polypropylene and polyester
geotextiles were labelled as GTXP
and GTXE respectively. While the
HDPE geomembranes are labelled
as GMBSN, GMBTL, and GMBTH.

8. Materials and Methodology
• Test method GRI GM13 with the aid of
a dial gauge was used to measure the
average asperity heights at 10 widely
distributed point (Koerner & Koerner
2015).
• Average asperity density was measured by
counting spikes pec 100 mm2 from two
different locations.
• Direct shear tests according to ASTM
D5321 (2014) were performed under dry
conditions. The shear rate, consolidation
time, and applied normal stress are 1
mm/min, 10 min and 50 - 400 kPa
respectively.

• A consistent increase in the peak and large displacement friction
angles was observed for both geotextile with increase in
geomembrane surface asperity.
• Specifically, surface asperities yielded higher friction angles in
polyester (PET) geotextile than polypropylene (PP) geotextile
interface. In other words, PET friction angle on the average is
14.65% higher than PP friction angle.
• When asperity volume increases from 2.39 to 4.01, there was an
average increase of 19% in the friction angle.
14. Conclusion
• Textured geomembranes yield higher peak and LD shear strengths than
smooth geomembranes.
• Polyester geotextile interface exhibit higher interface shear characteristics
than the polypropylene geotextile, hence, its more suitable for ultimate
limit state design.
• Geomembranes with low asperity height and high asperity density (low
asperity volume) results in excessive post-peak shear reduction. With the
reduction been more pronounced in polypropylene geotextile.
• Polypropylene geotextile has more functional before failure than polyester
geotextile when asperities are involved, hence, it is preferred for
serviceability limit state designs.

the findings of this study in site-specific conditions will
increase the design life of landfill liners.
