community other than providing jobs and tax revenue?
➢ Providing good food in a very reasonable
price
➢ Providing discounts
➢ Sponsoring community activities
➢ Providing healthy foods
➢ Introducing a hygienic environment
➢ Try to provide more variety
➢ Left overs can be given away to the poor

suppliers? With your employees?
➢ Paying them on time
➢ Loyalty
➢ Provide enough lead time for delivery
➢ Keeping them always updated
➢ Giving a good salary
➢ Job motivations
➢ Good working environment
➢ Rewards
➢ Bonuses
➢ Appreciation
QUESTION-04
Do you see any conflict between your desire to be as
profitable as possible and your desire to pay
employees a living
➢ The two ideas can coexist
➢ One should agree to meet one’s financial
obligations to one’s employees
➢ It would unethical not to pay the employees
appropriately
➢ If employees aren’t paid well then they won’t work
for long.
➢ The company would have to keep on hiring new
employees
➢ Training for the new employees would need more
money
➢ One morality should be of primary importance
QUESTION-05

might have the biggest impact on your business? How?

ENVIROMENT
CHAPTER-02
CASE REVIEW
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that cities could have school voucher
programs that give money directly to parents, who could then
choose among competing schools, public or private. The idea was to
create competition among schools. Like businesses, schools were
expected to improve their services (how effectively they teach) to
win students from competitors. The result would be improvement in
all schools, private and public, to benefit many students.
QUESTION-01
➢ I do agree the fact that competition affects
private organizations by a huge amount
➢ But competition does not affect the public
organizations much
➢ Competition within the private firms makes
companies constantly improve their
products and services and tries to become
a winner
➢ In public organizations profits doesn’t really
matter to the employees because their
wages are fixed no matter if they make a
profit or not
Do you believe economic principles, like competition, apply in
both private and public organizations?
PUBLIC ORGANISATION PRIVATE ORGANISATION
QUESTION-02
➢ Road system and maintenance
➢ Private companies would do it more
efficiently
➢ Garbage and recycling collection
➢ Private firms can do it in a lower cost
➢ Postal service
➢ This might allow the postal service to
become more profitable and efficient
Are there other public functions that might benefit from
more competition, including competition from private firms?
QUESTION-03
Many people say that businesspeople do not do
enough for society. Some students choose to go into
the public sector instead of business because they
want to help others. However, businesspeople say
that they do more to help others than nonprofit
groups do because they provide jobs for people
rather than giving them charity. Furthermore, they
believe businesses create all the wealth that
nonprofit groups distribute.
CONTEXT
➢ The middle ground could be established if
both worked together for the society
➢ Business men could give money to the
nonprofit organizations for development
a. How can you find some middle ground in this debate to show that both
businesspeople and those who work for nonprofit organizations contribute to society
and need to work together more closely to help people?
➢ According to Adam Smith employees would
work harder if they knew they would be
rewarded
➢ Chances of making a better revenue for both
companies are increased when both of them
work together
➢ Thus the employees can be rewarded better for
their work
b. How could you use the concepts of Adam Smith to help illustrate
your position?

CRITICAL THINKING
FAQ
QUESTION-01
About 95 percent of the world’s population lives outside the United States,
but many U.S. companies, especially small businesses, still do not engage
in global trade. Why not? Do you think more small businesses will participate in global
trade in the future? Why or why not?
➢ Involving in global trade is extremely
risky
➢ Language and cultural barriers
➢ Product modification
➢ Legislation and regulation
➢ In future more small companies will
come forward as competitions are
increasing in market places
QUESTION-02
➢Lack of having sufficient resources
➢Lack of infrastructure
➢Lack of good ports and airports
Countries like the United States that have a high standard of living are
referred to as industrialized nations. Countries with a lower standard of
living and quality of life are called developing countries (or underdeveloped
or less developed countries). What factors prevent developing nations from
becoming industrialized nations?
UNDERDEVELOPMENT

DEVELOPMENT

QUESTION-03
What can businesses do to prevent unexpected problems in dealing with
sociocultural, economic and financial, legal and regulatory and physical
and environmental forces in global markets?

2
QUESTION-04
➢ Protect domestic industry from foreign
competition
➢ Increase governments revenue
➢ Restricts competition
➢ Protect consumers from exploitations
➢ Without it many U.S farmers would go
bankrupt
How would you justify the use of revenue or protective tariffs in today’s
global market?

CHAPTER-04
CASE REVIEW
Think of a situation that tested your
ethical behavior. For example, maybe
your best friend forgot about a term
paper due the next day and asked if he
could copy a paper you wrote for another
instructor last semester.
QUESTION-01
What are your alternatives, and what are the consequences of each?
ETHICALLY WRONG EMPACT ON FRIENDSHIP
QUESTION-02
Would it have been easier to resolve the dilemma if you had asked yourself the three questions listed in the
chapter? Try answering them now and see whether you would have made a different choice.
1 IS IT LEGAL?
2 IS IT BALANCED?
3 HOW WILL IT MAKE ME FEEL?
